Samant or Sawad (or Saund, Saud) were the feudal kings of the Doti region, which was formed after the disintegration of Katyuri kingdom of Uttarakhand and far western region of Nepal during the 13th century. The Saud title was given by the Raika king. During the reign of Raika king, Saud were ranked after king. it is known as the warrior kshatriya caste and found widely in Garhwal, Kumaon and Far-western region of Nepal. Bal Gangadhar Samant (27 May 1924 – 18 January 2009) was an Indian writer. He wrote around 80 books in Marathi on a wide range of topics from fiction, biography, Marathi dramas and history. His books include a biography of Richard Francis Burton, (titled ''Shapith Yaksha''), Hitler, Deenanath Mangeshkar, Marathi natyasangeet, reincarnation, Bal Gandharva, elephants (titled ''Gajaraja''), death and many more. ''Saprem Namaskar'' (सप्रेम नमस्कार) and ''Shapit Yaksha'' (शापित यक्ष) are two of his works. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2004 for Literature and education. Mohan Samant (1924 – 2004) was an early Indian modernist painter and member of the Progressive Artists Group. He was also a lifelong player of the sarangi, an Indian bowed string instrument. Early years Samant was born Manmohan Balkrishna Samant into a middle-class Brahmin family in Goregaon, a suburb of Mumbai (then Bombay), India, in 1924. Captain (naval), Captain Mohan Narayan Rao Samant, Maha Vir Chakra, MVC (1930 – 20 March 2019) was an officer of the Indian Navy, who was awarded with the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest war-time gallantry award. Samant played an important role in the covert operation called #Operation X, Naval Commando Operation X, which was instituted in 1971 during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
