Saman () is a city in the Central District (Saman County), Central District of Saman County, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. Demographics Ethnicity The city is populated by Turkic peoples, Turkic people with a Persians, Persian minority. Population At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 14,777 in 3,961 households, when it was capital of the former Saman District, Iran, Saman District in Shahrekord County. ''Saman'' is an Indonesian novel by Ayu Utami published in 1998. It is Utami's first novel, and depicts the lives of four sexually-liberated female friends, and a former Catholic priest, Saman, for whom the book is named. Written in seven to eight months while Utami was unemployed, ''Saman'' sold over 100,000 copies and ignited a new literary movement known as sastra wangi (originally used pejoratively) that opened the doors to an influx of sexually-themed literary works by young Indonesian women. Saman (also called Sumana, Sumana Saman, ) is a deity, subject to local and indigenous belief and worship in Sri Lanka. The name Saman means "good minded". His character is of historical significance for the Sinhalese people and veneration especially to all the Buddhists.
