Sam (ugly Dog)
Sam (November 7, 1990 – November 18, 2005) was a blind pure-bred Chinese Crested dog, and three-time champion of the annual Sonoma-Marin Fair World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Northern California in 2003–2005. His ugliness earned him international fame and celebrity. His death made international headlines. His owner, Santa Barbara resident Susie Lockheed, took him in as a rescue dog in 1999 from his first owner. Media In 2005 Sam starred on Criss Angel's 2005 ''Mindfreak'' Halloween Special which aired on the A&E Network. Sam played the role of Angel's cat, dressed up in a Halloween costume. Sam was featured on Japanese television, New Zealand radio and the ''Daily Telegraph'' in England. Death Due to heart complications, Sam was euthanized on November 18, 2005, just 11 days after his 15th birthday. ''Sam'' is an American crime drama television series that aired on the CBS network from March 14 to April 18, 1978 for six episodes. It told the story of a Los Angeles police officer, Mike Breen (played by Mark Harmon), and his specially-trained police dog, Sam, a Labrador Retriever. Synopsis In the series, Sam assisted Breen in cases such as rescues, drug smuggling, and bomb threats. Also starring were Len Wayland as Breen's supervisor, Captain Tom Clagett, and Gary Crosby as Captain Gene Cody. Production notes ''Sam'' was the brainchild of television producer Jack Webb, whose Mark VII Limited packaged the show for Universal Television. ''Sam'' is a television drama series written by John Finch and produced by Granada Television between 1973 and 1975 for broadcast on ITV. Finch also created and wrote '' A Family at War'' for Granada. The series is based on fact, with Sam as a boy growing up in Featherstone. It was initially set in the coalfields of Yorkshire in the inter-war period but eventually progressed to the modern (then) era. Interior scenes were recorded at Granada's studios in Manchester, while many of the exterior scenes were filmed in Lancashire. For example, the railway station used for filming was Garswood, near Wigan. Local dialect is used, e.g. top-at-knob referring to North Featherstone.
