Sam Snead Festival
The Sam Snead Festival was an unofficial money golf tournament, played from 1948 to 1961, at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. It attracted many PGA Tour players and was won by longtime Greenbrier club pro Sam Snead six times. The tournament began as the Greenbrier Pro-Am in 1948, and was a 36-hole pro-amateur event with 18 invited top professionals of the day. Prizes were awarded for both the professional medal total and the pro-am best ball total. The event went to four rounds the next year; the first 36 holes with just the professionals, the amateurs joining in for the final 36 holes. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Greenbrier Classic
The Greenbrier Classic was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour, held from 2010 to 2019 at The Old White at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. For its final two editions, the tournament was titled A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier. Course Opened in 1914, The Old White course joined the TPC network of courses in March 2011. Pro–am (or pro/am, pro am, ProAm; a contraction of professional–amateur) refers to a sporting event where both Professional sports, professional career athletes and Amateur sports, amateurs compete. White Sulphur Springs Open
The White Sulphur Springs Open was a PGA Tour event that was played on the Old White Course of the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia during the 1920s and 1930s. The hotel is now a 721-room resort called The Greenbrier. The Old White Course opened in 1914 and is named after the Old White Hotel, which stood on the grounds from 1858 to 1922. PGA Tour Champions (formerly the Senior PGA Tour and the Champions Tour) is a men's professional senior golf tour, administered as a branch of the PGA Tour. The Greenbrier American Express Championship
The Greenbrier American Express Championship was a professional golf tournament on the Senior PGA Tour (now PGA Tour Champions). Held from 1985 through 1987 in West Virginia, the 54-hole event was played in July at The Greenbrier resort near White Sulphur Springs. The inaugural event was played Thursday through Saturday, starting on the Fourth of July. Don January won the first two editions, the second in a sudden-death playoff. Bruce Crampton opened with a 63 and won the final tournament in 1987 by six strokes, tying January's scoring record of 200 (–16). Henry Cotton (golfer)
Sir Thomas Henry Cotton, MBE (28 January 1907 – 22 December 1987) was an English professional golfer. He won the Open Championship in 1934, 1937 and 1948, becoming the leading British player of his generation. The Rookie of the Year award in European Tour is named after him. Early life Cotton was born in Holmes Chapel, then known as Church Hulme, near Congleton, Cheshire on 28 January 1907. He had an older brother, Leslie (born 1905), who also became a professional golfer. Cotton was brought up in Crystal Palace Road, East Dulwich, London. He later went to Reigate Grammar School, and then won a scholarship to Alleyn's School in Dulwich, South London. The Greenbrier
The Greenbrier is a luxury resort located in the Allegheny Mountains near White Sulphur Springs in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, in the United States. Since 1778, visitors have traveled to this part of the state to "take the waters" of the area.
