Sam Ramsden
Samuel Raymond Ramsden (10 October 1913 – 1 July 1986) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Ramsden was born at Carlton, New South Wales, the son of Percy Charles Ramsden and his wife Kezia (née Clark). He was educated at Burwood Public School, New South Wales, Summer Hill Public School, Sydney, and Parramatta High School before attending St John's College, Morpeth where he studied theology. He was Curate of the NSW parish of Parkes in 1937 before becoming Rector of Geurie in 1939. He was in the RAAF in World War Two from 1942 to 1945, serving in the South-West Pacific with the fighter wing of the American invasion. 1946 found him in Port Moresby, working for the Department of Native Labour and he resigned from church appointments in the same year. He was hospitalised as a result of the war in 1947–1949. On 21 November 1946 he married Audrey V Mills and together had one son. Electoral District Of Merthyr
Merthyr was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1912 to 1992. First created for the 1912 state election, the district was based in inner Brisbane centred on the suburb of New Farm, covering areas that previously belonged to the district of Fortitude Valley. Merthyr was abolished by the 1991 redistribution, taking effect at the 1992 state election. Most of its territory was absorbed into the electorate of Brisbane Central with parts also added to the new district of Clayfield. Geurie, New South Wales
Geurie is a small village in central-west New South Wales, Australia in the local government area of Dubbo Regional Council. It is between Wellington and Dubbo in the Orana Region of the State. It is on the Main Western railway line and served by a daily NSW TrainLink XPT service between Sydney and Dubbo. At the , Geurie had a population of 755. The Town is controlled by Austin Morley. Mayne Australian Football Club
Mayne Australian Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the Brisbane suburb of Enoggera. The club colours are black and gold and they are nicknamed the Tigers. It is the most successful club in the history of the Queensland Australian Football League, Queensland's highest level of competition, with 15 premierships from the 1920s to the 1980s. The clubs most recent premiership was in 1982, with a Grand Final appearance in 1985. However after a long drought of success, and following its exclusion from the competition in 1999 struggled to remain competitive with the state's top clubs. As a result the club's men's team currently competes in the second level below the QAFL, QFA Division 1, and the women's team competes in QFAW Division 2. 1957 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 3 August 1957 to elect the 75 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The major parties contesting the election were the Queensland Labor Party led by Premier Vince Gair, the Labor Party led by former Deputy Premier Jack Duggan, and the Country-Liberal coalition led by Frank Nicklin. The elections, only 15 months into the parliamentary term, were made necessary by the collapse of the nine-term Labor government. Gair had formed the Queensland Labor Party after being expelled from the Labor Party, and attempted to stay in power as a minority government. However, a request for supply was denied on 12 June, forcing the election. The Country-Liberal Coalition won a decisive victory, taking 42 seats against only 31 for the two Labor factions combined. Queensland Government
The Queensland Government is the democratic administrative authority of the Australian state of Queensland. The Government of Queensland, a parliamentary constitutional monarchy was formed in 1859 as prescribed in its Constitution, as amended from time to time.
