''Frederick Forsyth Presents'' is a series of British made-for-television films made by FremantleMedia for London Weekend Television on ITV, first broadcast between 2 December 1989 to 8 December 1990. Based on stories which were later published as the Forsyth novel '' The Deceiver'', there are six films, most with the themes of espionage and war. An important character who appears in all six is Sam McCready, played by Alan Howard, a Secret Intelligence Service agent who has become an author but continues to work on SIS operations. He plays the lead in most of the films, but in ''A Little Piece of Sunshine'' he has more of a supporting role. Each of the stories are introduced on screen by Frederick Forsyth. The Deceiver (novel)
The Deceiver is a novel by English writer Frederick Forsyth, about a retiring agent of the British Secret Intelligence Service, SIS named Sam McCready. He is the head of Deception, Disinformation and Psychological Operations, and his maverick but brilliant successes have led to his nickname "The Deceiver." The stories had previously been filmed as ''Frederick Forsyth Presents'', a miniseries for British television, in 1989 and 1990, with McCready played by Alan Howard (actor), Alan Howard. The book followed in 1991. Plot Prologue It is discreetly explained to the Chief of British Intelligence that, in the new atmosphere of détente, and the warming of relations with the Soviet Union, that the SIS's role will have to be redefined, and some of its more aggressive agents will have to be taught a lesson. Sam McCready (actor)
Sam McCready (22 November 1936 – 10 February 2019) was an actor, theatre director and playwright who was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. One of 13 children of David and Sarah McCready, he lived in Northern Ireland and in the United States with his wife Joan Carslake whom he met in 1958 at Stranmillis College, Belfast, and married in 1962. They had two children. Sam McCready was a founder member of the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, with whom he founded the Lyric Youth Theatre (1968), and later still the Lyric Drama Studio (1978). He performed and directed theatre productions in Europe and the US, and with Joan McCready was the founder and co-Artistic Director of Two-for-One Productions, a touring company which specializes in small-scale productions. He conducted the Drama Workshop at the Yeats International Summer School, Sligo regularly from 1999. He also gained a reputation as a painter with major exhibitions in Ireland and the United States. Max McCready
Samuel Maxwell McCready (8 March 1918 – 1994) was an Irish amateur golfer. He won the 1949 Amateur Championship and was in the British Walker Cup team in 1949 and 1951. McCready lived near the Dunmurry golf course, near Belfast, where he learnt his golf. During World War II he served in the Royal Air Force. McCready moved to South Africa in 1959 where he worked for McAlpine Construction. He died in South Africa in 1994.
