Sam Lewis (game Designer)
Sam Lewis is an American designer of board games and former line developer of the ''Renegade Legion'' line in FASA Corporation. He was also president of FASA for a time. Background He holds an MBA in economics from Northwestern University, which he obtained in 1983. In 1983, he was credited as the designers of Mayfair Games' ''Dragonriders of Pern'' licensed game after a novel by Anne McCaffrey. After Jordan Weisman founded the company which would become Virtual World Entertainment, Sam Lewis became president of FASA. By 1994, ''Renegade Legion'' had been dropped from production, and when Paul Lidberg - president of Crunchy Frog Enterprises - sought a full ''Battletech'' license from FASA, Lewis convinced Lidberg to license ''Renegade Legion'' instead. For FASA, he created the individual combat game '' Battletroops'' in their ''Battletech'' game universe, and is credited for the adaption thereof under the name ''DMZ'' in the ''Shadowrun'' universe. ''Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall'' was a massively multiplayer online game developed by Cartoon Network and South Korean studio Grigon Entertainment and released on January 14, 2009. ''FusionFall'' used the Unity engine as its client technology basis. For the first year, the full game required a subscription; free accounts could only access a portion of the content. Renegade Legion
''Renegade Legion'' is a series of science fiction games that were designed by Sam Lewis, produced by FASA, and published from 1989 to 1993. The line was then licensed to Nightshift games, a spin-off of the garage company Crunchy Frog Enterprises by Paul Arden Lidberg, which published one scenario book, a gaming aid, and three issues of a fanzine-quality periodical before reverting the license. Set in the 69th Century, the series allowed gamers to play out the battles between the " Terran Overlord Government (TOG)", a corrupt galactic empire, and the "Commonwealth", an alliance of humans and aliens. The focus of the plot, like with many strategy games, is to present a long term conflict to enable as many individual situations and environments as possible. Paul Lidberg
Paul Arden Lidberg is a game designer of board games and role-playing games. Career Paul Lidberg worked for both Crunchy Frog Enterprises and Nightshift Games, and also worked for about six months at the Waterloo game store in Phoenix, Arizona that was founded by Scott Bizar of Fantasy Games Unlimited. Lidberg and Douglas Niles designed the board game '' A Line in the Sand'' (1991) about the Gulf War. Lidberg inquired with FASA about the '' Battletech'' license, but Sam Lewis instead convinced Lidberg to license ''Renegade Legion'' from FASA. Lidberg found that retailers and distributors would not support ''Renegade Legion'' because FASA was not promoting it directly, so the rights to the game reverted from Crunchy Frog Enterprises back to FASA in 1996 when Crunchy Frog did not promote the game aggressively enough.
