General Samuel Jones (December 17, 1819 – July 31, 1887) was a major general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. At the midpoint of the war, he commanded the Department of Western Virginia, defending the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad and the vital salt mines. Later he commanded the district of South Carolina. Early life On December 17, 1819, Samuel Jones was born at "Woodfield", his parents' plantation in Powhatan County, Virginia. His father, Samuel Jones, was a nephew and ward of Governor William Branch Giles, of Virginia, under whose care he was brought up, and a graduate of Princeton College. Jones' mother was Ann Moseley, daughter of Mr. Edward Moseley, of Powhatan County. Samuel Frederick Jones (born 15 December 1991) is an English former rugby union player. Jones studied at Aylesbury Grammar School and King's College London. He played rugby for England U-16, U-18 and U-20, and Wasps RFC in the Aviva Premiership. In 2013 he was called up to the Barbarian FC, Barbarian's team to play England national rugby union team, England and the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia, British & Irish Lions. On 30 September 2016 Jones was called up to the senior England national rugby union team, England squad by coach Eddie Jones (rugby union), Eddie Jones for the Autumn Internationals. Samuel Percy Jones (1 August 1861 – 14 July 1951) was an Australian cricketer who played 12 Tests between 1882 and 1888. A solid right-handed batsman and a handy medium pace bowler, Jones excelled for New South Wales and later for Queensland and Auckland. He toured England with the Australians in 1882, 1886, 1888 and 1890, and New Zealand with Australians in 1886–87 and the Queensland team in 1896–97. On the 1886 tour he scored 1497 first-class runs at 24.95, and two centuries, including his career-best of 151 against the Gentlemen at The Oval. Sam Jones (born April 29, 1978) is an American-Dutch professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Colorado State Rams. He was an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Samuel Pond "Sad Sam" Jones (July 26, 1892 – July 6, 1966) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher with the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators and the Chicago White Sox between 1914 and 1935.
