Sam Doble
Samuel Arthur Doble (9 March 1944 – 17 September 1977) was an English rugby union full-back who played international rugby for England and club rugby for Moseley. He was a Wolverhampton school teacher by profession. Doble won only three caps for his country, but he was one of the game's most popular characters and his death in 1977 at the age of 33 was mourned throughout English rugby. Rugby career Doble first came to public attention when he scored 581 points for Moseley in the 1971/72 domestic season, an achievement that earned him a call up. His debut was an 18–9 victory over South Africa in Johannesburg, against a side that were considered to be the unofficial World Champions. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. Peter Squires (sportsman)
Peter John Squires (born ) is an English former rugby union player and a first-class cricketer, who played in forty nine first-class matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1972 and 1976. Squires was born 4 August 1951 in Ripon, Yorkshire, England. He was educated at both Ripon Grammar School and York St John University. Despite his healthy number of appearances, this right-handed opening batsman found runs hard to come by, scoring 1,271 at an average of 16.72, with a best score of 70. He was no more prolific in his fifty six List A one day matches from 1971 to 1976, making 708 runs at 16.46 with a top score of 79 not out. The only ball he bowled in one day cricket went to the boundary, and his 6.2 overs in first-class cricket cost 32 runs without success. Squires took fourteen first-class catches. Peter Wheeler (rugby Union)
Peter John Wheeler, CBE (born 26 November 1948) is a former international rugby union player who played hooker and was Chief Executive of Leicester Tigers. Early life Wheeler attended Brockley County Grammar School and went on to play for Old Brockleians Rugby Club and Kent for three seasons. Playing career Wheeler was considered a tough and technically proficient hooker and was integral to Leicester's innovative and expansive style of play. Wheeler captained Leicester Tigers to three consecutive wins in the John Player Cup from 1979 to 1981 and played 349 games for the club from 1969 to 1985. He was an early advocate of league rugby in the 1980s. Sale Sharks
Sale Sharks is a professional rugby union club from Greater Manchester, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England's top division of rugby. Originally founded in 1861 as Sale Football Club, now a distinct amateur club, they adopted the nickname Sharks in 1999. Since 2012 they have played their home games at the A.J. Fran Cotton
Francis Edward Cotton (born 3 January 1947) is a former rugby union prop forward who played for England and the British Lions. His clubs included Coventry R.F.C. and Sale. After retiring, he remained in rugby administration and founded a clothing company. In 2007, Cotton returned to his former club Sale as a member of the club's board. Cotton was born in Wigan, Lancashire, and went to Loughborough University to study physical education. Cotton was ahead of his time in terms of physical preparation. It was during these years that Cotton would win the Glengarth Sevens at Stockport Rugby Club along with Steve Smith and Clive Rees. Sir Gareth Owen Edwards CBE (born 12 July 1947) is a Welsh former rugby union player who played scrum-half and has been described by the BBC as "arguably the greatest player ever to don a Welsh jersey". In 2003, in a poll of international rugby players conducted by ''Rugby World'' magazine, Edwards was declared the greatest player of all time. In 2007, former England captain Will Carling published his list of the '50 Greatest Rugby players' in ''The Daily Telegraph'', and ranked Edwards the greatest player ever, stating; "He was a supreme athlete with supreme skills, the complete package. Llanelli RFC
Llanelli Rugby Football Club ( cy, Clwb Rygbi Llanelli) is a Welsh rugby union club founded on 30 March 1872. The club's historic home ground was Stradey Park in Llanelli, but they moved in 2008 to the new Parc y Scarlets in adjacent Pemberton. The club song is " Sosban Fach", a Welsh song meaning "Little Saucepan", which is sometimes sung by the club's fans during matches as the club anthem. The team colours are scarlet and white. Phil Bennett
Philip Bennett (24 October 1948 – 12 June 2022) was a Welsh rugby union player who played as a fly-half for Llanelli RFC and the Wales national team. He began his career in 1966, and a year later he had taken over from Barry John as Llanelli's first-choice fly-half. He made 414 appearances for the Scarlets over the course of a 15-year career. He made his Wales debut in 1969, but it was not until John's retirement from rugby in 1972 that Bennett became a regular starter for his country. He led Wales to three Five Nations Championship titles, including Grand Slams in 1976 and 1978, the second of which marked his retirement from Wales duty. The Scotland national rugby union team represents Scotland in men's international rugby union and is administered by the Scottish Rugby Union.
