Sam Currie
Samuel Percy Currie (22 November 1889 – 7 December 1962) was a Scottish professional footballer who made over 230 appearances in the Football League for Leicester City as a full-back. He captained the club. Career Born in Kilwinning, Scotland, Currie began his career with his hometown junior club Kilwinning Rangers, with whom he 1908–09 Scottish Junior Cup. He moved to England to join Football League Second Division club Leicester Fosse in May 1909. Between 1909 and 1922, he made 248 senior appearances, in addition to a further 123 non-competitive appearances during the First World War. Currie ended his career in the Third Division North with Wigan Borough, for whom he made 33 appearances before being appointed player-coach of the reserve team in March 1924. Kilwinning
Kilwinning (, sco, Kilwinnin; gd, Cill D’Fhinnein) is a town in North Ayrshire, Scotland. It is on the River Garnock, north of Irvine, about southwest of Glasgow. It is known as "The Crossroads of Ayrshire". Kilwinning was also a Civil Parish. The 2001 Census recorded the town as having a population of 15,908. The estimated population in 2016 was 16,460. Duncan Currie
Duncan Currie (13 August 1892 – 1 July 1916) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a full back in the Scottish League for Heart of Midlothian. Personal life Currie's brothers Bob and Sam also became footballers. Currie served as a sergeant in McCrae's Battalion of the Royal Scots during the First World War and was killed on the first day of the Somme. He was shot in the right shoulder in no-man's land and died instantly during an assault on La Boisselle. Currie is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Manchester Senior Cup
The Manchester FA Senior Cup (originally known as the Manchester and District Challenge Cup, later the Manchester Cup) is an annual football tournament held between the clubs of the Manchester Football Association which was first played in 1885; the first winners were Hurst who beat Newton Heath LYR in the final. Organisation The competition featured the major professional clubs of the Manchester area — Manchester United (as Newton Heath LYR until 1892 and Newton Heath until 1902), Manchester City (as Ardwick until 1894), Bolton Wanderers, Bury, Oldham Athletic, and Stockport County — until the 1970s, after which only non-league and amateur clubs entered. Third Division North
The Third Division North of the Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division South with clubs elected to the League or relegated from a higher division allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division North and the Third Division South according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. The Third Division South had been created in 1921 from the Third Division formed the previous year made up of 22 teams drawn mostly from the Southern League. It was decided that this gave the Football League overall too much of a southern bias, so the Third Division North was created in 1921–22 to redress the balance.
