Sam Adams (golfer)
Sam Adams (born May 9, 1946) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour. He is one of few left-handers to win a PGA Tour event. Adams was born in Boone, North Carolina. He played golf collegiately at Appalachian State University. He turned professional in 1969. On September 30, 1973, Adams recorded the only victory of his PGA Tour career, posting a 16-under-par 268 at the Quad Cities Open to win by three strokes over Dwight Nevil and Kermit Zarley. He was the first American lefty to win on the PGA Tour. He also had several other top-10 finishes including a T-2 finish at the 1972 Canadian Open. His best finish in a major championship was a T-23 at the 1977 U.S. Open. Adams played on the Sunbelt Senior Tour after reaching age 50. Boone, North Carolina
Boone is a town in and the county seat of Watauga County, North Carolina, United States. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Boone is the home of Appalachian State University and the headquarters for the disaster and medical relief organization Samaritan's Purse. The population was 19,092 at the 2020 census. In human biology, handedness is an individual's preferential use of one hand, known as the dominant hand, due to it being stronger, faster or more dextrous. This is a list of the 1971 PGA Tour Qualifying School graduates. The event was held in mid-October at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. It is generally regarded to be one of the greatest qualifying schools in history with a number of future stars graduating, including Lanny Wadkins and Tom Watson. The North Carolina Open is the North Carolina state open golf tournament, open to both amateurs and PGA professionals. Appalachian State University
Appalachian State University (; Appalachian, App State, App, or ASU) is a public university in Boone, North Carolina. It was founded as a teachers college in 1899 by brothers B. B. and D. D. Dougherty and the latter's wife, Lillie Shull Dougherty. The university expanded to include other programs in 1967 and joined the University of North Carolina System in 1971.
