Salvia Albimaculata
''Salvia albimaculata'' (handsome sage) is a perennial shrub that is native to a very small region in Turkey, at 1200 m elevation in the Taurus Mountains. It is under 30 cm tall, and about 25–30 cm wide, with small greenish-gray evergreen leaves. The royal purple flowers, with a distinctive white patch on the lower lip, are about 2.5 cm long, in whorls of 2–5. The name, ''albimaculata'', means 'spotted with white'. Taurus Mountains
The Taurus Mountains ( Turkish: ''Toros Dağları'' or ''Toroslar'') are a mountain complex in southern Turkey, separating the Mediterranean coastal region from the central Anatolian Plateau. The system extends along a curve from Lake Eğirdir in the west to the upper reaches of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers in the east. It is a part of the Alpide belt in Eurasia. Etymology The mountain range under the current name was mentioned in ''The Histories'' by Polybius as Ταῦρος (''Taûros''). Heinrich Kiepert writes in ''Lehrbuch der alten Geographie'' that the name was borrowed into Ancient Greek from the Semitic (Old Aramaic) root טורא ''ṭūrā'', meaning "mountain". ''Salvia'' () is the largest genus of plants in the sage family Lamiaceae, with nearly 1000 species of shrubs, herbaceous plant, herbaceous perennial plant, perennials, and annual plant, annuals. Within the Lamiaceae, ''Salvia'' is part of the tribe Mentheae within the subfamily Nepetoideae. One of several genera commonly referred to as sage, it includes two widely used herbs, ''Salvia officinalis'' (common sage, or just "sage") and ''Salvia rosmarinus'' (rosemary, formerly ''Rosmarinus officinalis'').
