Salvador Casellas
Salvador Enrique Casellas (June 10, 1935 – November 22, 2017) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. Education and career Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Casellas graduated from the Academia del Perpetuo Socorro in 1953, with High Honors. He received a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in 1957, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Puerto Rico Law School in 1960, and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1961. Served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Armor Branch from 1961 to 1963, and remained in the United States Army Reserve in the Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1963 to 1967. He was in private practice in San Juan from 1962 to 1972. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. The University of Puerto Rico School of Law is a law school in Puerto Rico. It is one of the professional graduate schools of University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus and the only law school in the University of Puerto Rico System. It was founded in 1913 at its present site in Río Piedras, which at the time was an independent municipality and is now part of the City of San Juan.
