Saltdean United Football Club are a football club based in Saltdean, which is a suburb of Brighton & Hove, England. They are currently members of the and play at Hill Park. History Saltdean United formed in 1966 by seven founding members who were inspired by the victorious England World Cup campaign. The club started life in the local Brighton Saturday League and gradually moved up their divisional structure over the years. Following the acquisition of their picturesque ground at Hill Park in the suburbs of Brighton, the club joined Division 3 of the Sussex County League in 1984/85, finishing third in their first season. More success followed and a promotion to Division 2 and senior football came in 1988/89 when Saltdean finished as champions. The next seven seasons were spent in this division, with the “Tigers” comfortably winning Division 2 in 1995/96 with games to spare. Saltdean
Saltdean is a coastal village in the city of Brighton and Hove, with part (known as East Saltdean) outside the city boundary in Lewes district. Saltdean is approximately east of central Brighton, west of Newhaven, and south of Lewes. It is bordered by farmland and the South Downs National Park. History Saltdean was open farmland, originally a part of the village of Rottingdean, and almost uninhabited until 1924 when land was sold off for speculative housing and property development. Some of this was promoted by entrepreneur Charles W. Neville, who had set up a company to develop the site (he also eventually built nearby towns Peacehaven and parts of Rottingdean). Saltdean has a mainly shingle beach, fronted by a promenade, the Undercliff Walk, which can be reached directly from the cliff top, by steps from the coast road, or by a subway tunnel from the nearby Lido. Paul Ifill
Paul Everton Ifill (born 20 October 1979) is a footballer who plays as a forward and manages Christchurch United. He spent most of his career playing as a right winger or a right midfielder, often described as an “old fashioned winger”. Born in Brighton, England, Ifill was in part of Watford's youth programme but was not offered a professional contract and moved to non-league Saltdean United. From there he was spotted by Millwall where he spent nearly seven years before being signed by Sheffield United in 2005. After two season with the Blades he transferred to Crystal Palace where he spent a further two seasons, before moving to New Zealand to play for Wellington Phoenix in the A-League, where he played from 2009 – 2014, until being forced into early retirement due to injury. Glenn Burvill
Glenn Burvill (born 26 October 1962) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder for Aldershot, Fulham and Reading in the Football League. Football career Club career Burvill started with West Ham United as an apprentice in their youth squad and was a member of the team which won the 1981 Youth Cup. Without making a first team appearance for West Ham before he moved to Aldershot in 1983. Burvill also played for Fulham and Reading before re-joining the Shots. After leaving Aldershot, Burvill moved into non-league football with Newhaven, jointly managing the Dockers from 1994 to 1996 with Martin Langley, before joining Horsham as a player towards the end of the 1995-1996 season. He spent his career playing in league football as a defender and midfielder with Brentford and also non-League football in both county level, with Saltdean United, and in national level where he has played for the majority of his career with Crawley Town and Eastbourne Borough. Sussex RUR Cup
The Sussex Royal Ulster Rifles Charity Cup is the original Cup which was presented to the Sussex County FA in 1897 by the Officers and men of the Royal Irish Rifles (subsequently Royal Ulster Rifles). The 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles won the Sussex Senior Cup, Brighton Shield, Charity Cup and Vernon Wentworth Cup in 1895–96 and were recognised as ‘Sussex Champions’. The trophy was presented as a permanent memento of their achievement and to raise money for charity. Since its inception in 1896–97, the Sussex (R.U.R) Charity Cup has had many different formats from an end of season invitation competition to its present knockout style.
