Halite (), commonly known as rock salt, is a type of salt, the mineral (natural) form of sodium chloride ( Na Cl). Halite forms isometric crystals. The mineral is typically colorless or white, but may also be light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow or gray depending on inclusion of other materials, impurities, and structural or isotopic abnormalities in the crystals. It commonly occurs with other evaporite deposit minerals such as several of the sulfates, halides, and borates. The name ''halite'' is derived from the Ancient Greek word for "salt", ἅλς (''háls''). Occurrence Halite dominantly occurs within sedimentary rocks where it has formed from the evaporation of seawater or salty lake water. Vast beds of sedimentary evaporite minerals, including halite, can result from the drying up of enclosed lakes and restricted seas. Salt Rock (also Saltrock) is a census-designated place (CDP) in southern Cabell County, West Virginia, Cabell County, West Virginia, United States. As of the United States Census, 2010, 2010 census, its population was 388. It lies along West Virginia Route 10 southeast of the city of Huntington, West Virginia, Huntington, the county seat of Cabell County. Its elevation is 581 feet (177 m). Ezra Millington "Salt Rock" Midkiff (November 13, 1882 – March 20, 1957) was a Major League Baseball third baseman who played in with the Cincinnati Reds and in and with the New York Highlanders (renamed the New York Yankees for the 1913 season). Midkiff was nicknamed "Salt Rock" due to his birthplace of Salt Rock, West Virginia. Major League career Midkiff was 26 years old when he made his Major League debut on October 5, 1909, with the Cincinnati Reds. After spending time in the minor leagues, Midkiff was acquired by the Highlanders from the San Antonio Bronchos of the Texas League in 1912. Midkiff spent 1913 as the starting third baseman for the Yankees, but Fritz Maisel took the job midway through the season, and Midkiff was sold to the minor league Baltimore Orioles in August. Saltrock Surfwear is a British surfwear company based in Devon. Created by brothers Ross and Angus Thomson in 1988, the idea was fostered in order to generate money to fund their passion of surfing. The brothers moved the company from Penzance, Cornwall to Devon in 1992, after which surfer Carl Priscott joined the board. History Angus and Ross Thomson are two South African natives who decided to travel the world in the eighties and experience the best places to surf. They ended up in Cornwall after taking a train from London to check out the waves in Penzance. After spending most of their days on the beach and their nights in a pub they began to run low on cash and had to figure out a way to make money.
