Salt (band)
Salt was a Swedish grunge/alternative rock band, who had one hit single from the album '' Auscultate'', "Bluster", in the United States in 1996. "So" was released as a second single from ''Auscultate'' but did not achieve the same level of success. Salt formed in 1992 after its members had played together informally, with others, at an art school. The group signed with Island Records in 1995, releasing the album ''Auscultate'' the following year; this album reached No. 33 on the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers chart. Grunge
Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle sound) is an alternative rock genre and subculture that emerged during the in the American Pacific Northwest state of Washington, particularly in Seattle and nearby towns. Grunge fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal, but without punk's structure and speed. The genre featured the distorted electric guitar sound used in both genres, although some bands performed with more emphasis on one or the other. Like these genres, grunge typically uses electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals. Grunge also incorporates influences from indie rock bands such as Sonic Youth. Lyrics are typically angst-filled and introspective, often addressing themes such as social alienation, self-doubt, abuse, neglect, betrayal, social and emotional isolation, addiction, psychological trauma and a desire for freedom. Auscultate (album)
''Auscultate'' is the debut album by the Swedish Salt. Island Records released the album in the United States in 1996. The first single from the album was "Bluster", which was a modern rock radio hit. The band supported the album by touring with Local H. Production Singer Nina Ramsby wrote and sang in English, as she felt it was a more tuneful and more cryptic language. She double tracked her vocals and guitar parts. All of the songs are about personal relationships. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' wrote that Ramsby "is a controlled, forceful singer with no perceptible accent, a complicated persona (the sketchy lyrics say a lot) and emotion to burn." ''Spin'' thought that, "on 'Bluster', metal riffing pile-drives into flowing-pop choruses, while on 'So', doleful acoustic guitars buffet broken rhythms." Nino Ramsby, born ''Nina'' Ramsby, is a Swedish singer-songwriter and musician from Stockholm. During the 1990s he was the vocalist and guitarist for the alternative rock band Salt. He was also part of the bands Baxter and Grand Tone Music. Ramsby was born to a Finnish mother and a Swedish father. In 2006 Ramsby released an album titled ''Jazzen'' with Martin Hederos on Amigo.
