Saloum Cohen
Saloum Cohen, also known as Shalom ben Amram ben Yitzhaq, ( he, שלום בן עמרם בן יצחק; January 13, 1921 – February 9, 2004), served as the Samaritan High Priest from 2001 until his death. He lived in Nablus in the West Bank and is buried in the cemetery of Kiryat Luza on Mount Gerizim. He was elected as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council in 1996 out of three Samaritan candidates for their reserved seat (elected by all electors, not only by Samaritans). Samaritan High Priest
The Samaritan High Priest is the high priest (''kohen gadol'') of the remaining Samaritan community in the Levant. According to Samaritan tradition, the office has existed continuously since the time of Aaron, the brother of Moses, and has been held by 133 priests over the last 3400 years. However, the historicity of this claim is disputed. Kiryat Luza
Kiryat Luza ( ar, قرية لوزة, he, קרית לוזה) is a Samaritan village situated on Mount Gerizim near the city of Nablus in the West Bank. It is under the joint control of Israel and the Palestinian National Authority, and is the only remaining site populated wholly by Samaritans. Kiryat Luza is home to roughly half of the world's total Samaritan population, with the other half located in the Israeli city of Holon. The village is adjacent to the Jewish Israeli settlement of Har Brakha. The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) is the unicameral legislature of the Palestinian Authority, elected by the Palestinian residents of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Elazar ben Tsedaka ben Yitzhaq (Samaritan Hebrew: ''ʾElā̊ʿzår ban Ṣīdqåʿ ban Yēṣʿā̊q''; he, אלעזר בן צדקה בן יצחק; January 16, 1927 – February 3, 2010) was the Samaritan High Priest from 2004 until his death. He was born in Nablus. He succeeded his cousin Saloum Cohen in 2004. According to tradition he is the 131st holder of this post since Aaron. During his time in office, he would lead the Samaritan community in their annual Passover ritual sacrifice of sheep. Levi Ben Abisha Ben Phinhas Ben Yitzhaq
Levi ben Abisha ben Phinehas ben Yitzhaq; (1920–May 23, 2001), served as the Samaritan High Priest from 1998 until his death. In his secular work prior to his retirement, he was chief clerk in the Nablus bus company. Before and after his retirement from secular work he was a genial and well-known teacher. He was the first Samaritan high priest to visit the United States. He petitioned the Israeli Supreme Court to grant Samaritan priests equality in law with rabbis; the petition was still pending at the time of his death. He lived in Nablus in the West Bank and is buried in the cemetery of Kiryat Luza on Mount Gerizim.
