Dieter Salomon (born 9 August 1960 in Melbourne, Australia) is a German politician of Alliance '90/The Greens who served as mayor of Freiburg im Breisgau for two terms from 2002 until 2018. Biography Salomon grew up in the German Allgäu. He received his Abitur in 1979 in Oberstdorf, and moved to Freiburg to study Political Science, Public Finance, and Roman Philology. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Freiburg in 1991. During his time as a student, he became active in the local chapter of the Alliance 90/The Greens. Salomon was married to Helen Hall-Salomon, and has one child from a previous marriage. Since 2011, he lived separated from his wife. His father was Levin Jakob Salomon and his mother was Bella Salomon, née Itzig_family#Bella_Itzig_(1749%E2%80%931824), Bella Itzig. Jakob was educated at the University of Halle. He took the additional surname 'Bartholdy' from a property owned by his family on his conversion to Reformed Christianity. Bartholdy fought in the Austrian army against Napoleon I of France, Napoleon, afterward entered the diplomatic service of Prussia, and accompanied the Allied armies to Paris in 1814, whence he was dispatched to Rome in the following year as Prussian Consul-General. Hermann Salomon
Hermann Salomon (13 April 1938 – 11 June 2020) was a German javelin thrower. He competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics, in the 1964 Summer Olympics, and in the 1968 Summer Olympics. Born in the Free City of Danzig, Salomon first competed for the German team of Hamburger SV, before moving to USC Mainz when he was 23 years old in 1961. Salomon's first international success was in Turin at the 1959 Summer Universiade, where he won a gold medal in the javelin and then a silver medal in the pentathlon, he followed this up four year later in Porto Alegre, Brazil at the 1963 Summer Universiade with a silver medal in the javelin. 1960 saw Salomon's first Olympic appearance at Rome, in the javelin throw, where he qualified in ninth place for the final and in the final he finished in 12th place, four years later at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo he missed out on qualifying by 0.4 metres, but he made up for it in Mexico City at the 1968 Summer Olympics where again he managed to ... Haym Salomon (also Solomon; anglicized from Chaim Salomon; April 7, 1740 – January 6, 1785) was a Polish-born Jewish businessman and political financial broker who assisted the Superintendent of Finance, English-born Robert Morris, as the prime financier of the rebel American side during the American Revolutionary War against Great Britain. Having immigrated to New York City from Poland, Salomon aided the Continental Army during the period of the American Revolution and helped convert French loans into ready cash by selling bills of exchange for Morris, the superintendent of finance. Gotthold Salomon (born as Schlomo Salman ben Lippmann haLewi; November 1, 1784 in Sandersleben (Anhalt-Dessau) – November 17, 1862 in Hamburg) was a German Jewish rabbi, politician and Bible translator. Following on the work of Moses Mendelssohn, Salomon was the first Jew to translate the complete ''Old Testament'' into High German, under the title ''Deutsche Volks- und Schulbibel für Israeliten'' (1837) ("German People's and School Bible for Israelites"). Frederick (''Friedrich'') Charles Salomon (April 7, 1826March 8, 1897) was a German immigrant to the United States who served as a Union Army officer and general during the American Civil War. He was an elder brother of the Civil War-era Wisconsin Governor Edward Salomon. Biography Frederick Salomon was born to a Jewish family in Ströbeck near Halberstadt, Prussia. After attending a gymnasium, he became a government surveyor, later a lieutenant of artillery, and in 1848 a pupil in the Berlin School of Architecture. Soon afterward, he emigrated to the United States, where he settled in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, as a surveyor. For four years, he was county register of deeds, and 1857-1859 he was the chief engineer with the Manitowoc and Wisconsin Railroad. In 1861 he joined the Missouri 5th Infantry as captain under Gen. Franz Pfeffer von Salomon (19 February 1888 – 12 April 1968) during the Nazi regime known as Franz von Pfeffer, was the first Supreme Leader of the '' Sturmabteilung'' (SA) after its re-establishment in 1925. Pfeffer resigned from his SA command in 1930 and was expelled from the Nazi Party in 1941. He died in 1968. Erich Salomon (28 April 1886 – 7 July 1944) was a German Jewish news photographer known for his pictures in the diplomatic and legal professions and the innovative methods he used to acquire them. Life and work Born in Berlin, Salomon studied law, engineering, and zoology up to World War I. After the war, he worked in the promotion department of the Ullstein publishing empire designing their billboard advertisements. He first picked up a camera in 1927, when he was 41, to document some legal disputes and soon after hid an Ermanox camera usable in dim light in his bowler hat. By cutting a hole in the hat for the lens, Salomon snapped a photo of a police killer on trial in a Berlin criminal court.
