Sally Bennett
Sally Bennett (born 10 June 1979) is an Australian sabre fencer. She won the gold medal at the 2013 Oceania Fencing Championships for women's sabre., after beating her New Zealand opponent 15-6 In 2014, she was inducted into the Randwick City Council Hall of Sporting Champions for her lifetime commitment to sport. Personal Bennett was born in Sydney, Australia. She attended Randwick Public School and Randwick Girls Technology High School. She completed a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education at the University of New South Wales and a Masters in International Business at the University of Sydney. She trained as a language teacher in French and German, and worked in Paris as a Communication Manager and Canada as a ski instructor. She has authored five books, four of which belong to the Rabs & Ted travel series for children. Sabre
A sabre ( French: sabÊ or saber in American English) is a type of backsword with a curved blade associated with the light cavalry of the early modern and Napoleonic periods. Originally associated with Central European cavalry such as the hussars, the sabre became widespread in Western Europe during the Thirty Years' War. Lighter sabres also became popular with infantry of the early 17th century. In the 19th century, models with less curving blades became common and were also used by heavy cavalry. The military sabre was used as a duelling weapon in academic fencing in the 19th century, giving rise to a discipline of modern sabre fencing (introduced in the 1896 Summer Olympics) loosely based on the characteristics of the historical weapon in that it allows for cuts as well as thrusts.
