Sallaneh
The sallaneh ( fa, سلانه) is a newly developed plucked string instrument made under the supervision of the Iranian musician Hossein Alizadeh Hossein Alizadeh ( fa, حسین علیزاده) is an Iranian musician, composer, radif-preserver, researcher, teacher, and tar, shurangiz and setar instrumentalist and improviser. He has performed with such musicians as Shahram Nazeri, Mohammad ..., and constructed by Siamak Afshari. It is inspired by the ancient Persian lute called '' barbat''. The barbat used to have three strings, but the sallaneh has six melody and six harmonic strings giving Alizadeh a new realm in lower tones.article at

Hossein Alizadeh
Hossein Alizadeh ( fa, حسین علیزاده) is an Iranian musician, composer, radif-preserver, researcher, teacher, and tar, shurangiz and setar instrumentalist and improviser. He has performed with such musicians as Shahram Nazeri, Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, Alireza Eftekhari and Jivan Gasparyan, as well as with a number of orchestras and ensembles. Music career Alizadeh was born in 1951 in Tehran. His father was from Urmia and his mother from Arak. As a teenager he attended secondary school at a music conservatory until 1975. His music studies continued at the University of Tehran, where his focus was composition and performance. He began postgraduate studies at the Tehran University of Art. After the Iranian Revolution, he resumed his studies at the University of Berlin, where he studied composition and musicology. Alizadeh plays the ''tar'' and ''setar''. Barbat (lute)
The ''barbat'' ( fa, بربت) or ''barbud'' was a lute of Central Asian or Greater Iranian or Persian origin. Barbat is characterized as carved from a single piece of wood, including the neck and a wooden sound board. Possibly a skin-topped instrument for part of its history, it is ancestral to the wood-topped oud and biwa and the skin-topped Yemeni qanbus. Although the original barbat disappeared, modern Iranian luthiers have re-created the instrument, looking at historical images for details. The modern re-created instrument (Iranian Barbat) resembles the oud, although differences include a smaller body, longer neck, a slightly raised fingerboard, and a sound that is distinct from that of the oud.
