Saline Valley Hot Springs
Saline Valley Hot Springs are a series of three thermal springs located in the remote Saline Valley area of Death Valley National Park. Description Each of the three main springs have several primitive soaking pools constructed from local rock, concrete and tile. Locals from the area constructed nearby showers, and a dishwashing station for visitors. The National Park System installed vault toilets nearby. Overnight parking is permitted up to 30 days per year. In 2019 the National Park Service finalized a management plan for the hot springs pertaining to visitor use and cultural and natural resource preservation. Three new camping areas are being developed approximately 100 feet or more from the spring sources to support car camping as well as walk-in campers. Saline Valley
Saline Valley is a large, deep, and arid graben, about in length, in the northern Mojave Desert of California, a narrow, northwest–southeast-trending tectonic sink defined by fault-block mountains. Most of it became a part of Death Valley National Park when the park was expanded in 1994. This area had previously been administered by the Bureau of Land Management. It is located northwest of Death Valley proper, south of Eureka Valley, and east of the Owens Valley. The valley's lowest elevations are about and it lies in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada range, plus the Inyo Mountains bordering the valley on the west. Death Valley National Park is an American national park that straddles the California–Nevada border, east of the Sierra Nevada. The park boundaries include Death Valley, the northern section of Panamint Valley, the southern section of Eureka Valley and most of Saline Valley. Chicken Strip
Saline Valley Warm Springs Airfield, commonly known as the Chicken Strip, is a non-towered dirt airstrip not depicted on an FAA sectional chart. The airstrip provides general aviation fly-in access to the Saline Valley hot springs in Death Valley National Park. The closest airport to the airstrip is Lone Pine Airport, to the southwest, and the closest airport with regular airline service is Fresno Yosemite International Airport, to the west. Chicken Strip was built in the 1960s to provide quicker access to the nearby hot springs, sometimes called the warm springs, that are a short walking distance away. Without the airport the only other access to the Saline Valley hot springs is an arduous, dirt road that can take three to four hours to complete. Saline Valley Salt Tram
The Saline Valley salt tram is located in Inyo County, California, United States. The electric aerial tramway was constructed from 1911 to 1913 to carry salt from the Saline Valley, over the Inyo Mountains, and into the Owens Valley. Covering a distance of , it operated sporadically from 1913 to 1935 for four different companies. During its operation, it was the steepest tram in the United States. The tram was built for the Saline Valley Salt Company (SVSC) by the Trenton Iron Company, but the costs of its construction and operation were ruinously expensive for the SVSC. The salt mining operation and tram were leased in 1915 to the Owens Valley Salt Company until it went bankrupt in 1918. In 1920, the tram was taken over by the Trenton Iron Company, which sold it to the Sierra Salt Company in 1928.
