Salinas Valley State Prison
Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) is a California state prison located north of Soledad, in Monterey County, California, adjacent to the Correctional Training Facility (aka Soledad State Prison). Facilities The prison consists of five facilities: A, B, C, D, and M. Of the five, Facility A, D, and M house Sensitive Needs Yard (SNY) inmates. The surrounding housing units hold level-4 and level-3 inmates, the two highest security rankings. M yard is a level-1 yard which houses approximately 200 inmates. The prison had a gymnasium which, due to the prison's over-crowding, at one time had been converted into a dormitory but due to inmate population reductions was shut down around 2008. The prison also houses an inpatient mental health program, formerly operated under the auspices of the California Department of State Hospitals (Salinas Valley Psychiatric Inpatient Program) to accommodate the psychological needs of inmates. Robert Peernock
Robert John Peernock ( – December 2021) was an American convicted for the murder of his wife, Claire Laurence Peernock, and for the attempted murder of his daughter, Natasha Peernock, on July 22, 1987. Peernock was a former pyrotechnics engineer and employee of the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) who claimed he was framed because he was about to publish a book exposing state corruption. He died in prison in December 2021. Roy Charles Waller
Roy Charles Waller (born January 8, 1960) is an American serial rapist. He was arrested in September 2018 as a suspect in a series of more than ten rapes and kidnappings committed between 1991 and 2006 in six Northern California counties (the NorCal Rapist). DNA evidence from crime scenes were matched on the online DNA-matching service, GEDmatch, to a relative of Waller, and he was identified through genetics-based genealogy. Police constructed a family tree and, using the known elements of the rapist, narrowed the suspects down to Waller. After the GEDmatch confirmation, they took about a week to identify and arrest the suspect. He was charged with a total of dozens of counts of rape, which took place in five different counties, including Sonoma, Solano, Contra Costa, Yolo and Butte. Terry Childs (September 22, 1955 – February 11, 2023) was an American serial killer serving several life sentences for the murders of at least five people in Nevada and California spanning from 1979 to 1985. Hans Reiser (born December 19, 1963) is an American computer programmer, entrepreneur, and convicted murderer. In April 2008, Reiser was convicted of the first-degree murder of his wife, Nina Reiser, who disappeared in September 2006.
