Salinas, Uruguay
Salinas is a city and resort of the Costa de Oro in the Canelones Department of southern Uruguay. Salinas is also the name of the municipality to which the town belongs and which includes the resort towns Marindia, Pinamar–Pinepark, Neptunia, Uruguay, Neptunia and rural areas to their north. Location The city is located on Kilometre Zero#Uruguay, Km.39 of Ruta Interbalnearia, and at its intersection with Route 87. It borders the resorts Pinamar-Pinepark to the west and Marindia to the east. History On 1 July 1982, its status was elevated from "Balneario" (resort) to "Ciudad" (city) by the Act of Ley Nº 15.283. Population According to the 2011 census, Salinas had a population of 8,626. In 2010 the ''Intendencia de Canelones'' had estimated a population of 16,874 for the municipality during the elections. Departments Of Uruguay
Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. These were the departments of Montevideo, Maldonado, Canelones, San José, Colonia, Soriano, Paysandú, Durazno and Cerro Largo. Telephone Numbers In Uruguay
Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. As from August 29, 2010, all phone numbers have 8 digits, according to the new National Numbering Plan. Zero prior to area code was eliminated. Costa De Oro
Costa de Oro is a long group of resort towns and beaches in Canelones Department, Uruguay, east of the Ciudad de la Costa. Document of the INE differentiating between Costa de Oro and Ciudad de la Costa and referring to a small difference with the Cartography Department which does not include Country Villa Juana in Costa de Oro (see footnote). The Departamento de Canelones ( es, Departamento de Canelones; ) is one of the 19 uruguayan departments. With an area of and 518,154 inhabitants, it is located in the south of Uruguay. Ruta Interbalnearia (which means Inter-resort Route) or Ruta Líber Seregni is a national route of Uruguay. It connects Montevideo with Punta del Este to the east along the coast.
