Salien Medhi
Salien Medhi (died 2016) was an Indian lawyer and politician, belonging to the Revolutionary Communist Party of India. He was a state legislator in Assam 1967-1972. Early career Medhi entered the Guwahati High Court in 1962.''Assam Tribune''. Leftist leader Sailen Medhi passes away' His legal career developed rapidly thereafter. He became a prominent member of the Guwahati High Court Bar Association. As a RCPI leader he was closely linked to Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Medhi helped Rabha during the latter's underground days. Legislator Medhi was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Jalukbari constituency in the 1967 election. He got 14,384 votes (61.60%). Medhi lost the Jalukbari seat in the 1972 Assam Legislative Assembly election. He finished in second place with 5,764 votes (25.09%). Revolutionary Communist Party Of India
The Revolutionary Communist Party of India ( RCPI) is a political party in India. The party was founded as the Communist League by Saumyendranath Tagore in 1934, breaking away from the Communist Party of India (CPI). RCPI led armed uprisings after the independence of India, but later shifted to parliamentary politics. The party is active in the Kerala, West Bengal and Assam. The party was represented in the West Bengal while being a part of Second United Front Cabinet (1969) as well as in various state government during the Left Front (West Bengal), Left Front rule in the state (1977–2011). In Assam, the party won four Legislative Assembly seats in 1978, but its political influence has since declined in the state. Bishnu Prasad Rabha
Bishnu Prasad Rabha was an cultural figure from Assam, known for his contributions in the fields of music, dance, painting, literature as well as political activism. As an advocate of people's cultural movement, he drew heavily from different genres of classical and folk cultural traditions. Considered a doyen of the Culture of Assam, the Assamese people affectionately call him ''Kalaguru'' (meaning: "the master of the arts").
