Salford Jets
Salford Jets are a British rock band that first formed in 1976 and performed until the early 1980s. The band re-formed in 2002. Biography The band originally included Mike Sweeney, later of Piccadilly Radio and its later incarnations, breakfast DJ at Real Radio XS, Capital Gold and now morning presenter at BBC Radio Manchester. The other band members were Diccon Hubbard (bass), Rod Gerrard (guitar), Don Mac (guitar), Dave Morris (drums), Geoff Kerry (keyboards) and Johnny Sax. It was this line-up that would back Wayne Fontana as The Mindbenders for a short period. The band had a Monday night residency on the "Top Road" in Pendlebury Swinton at The Duke of Wellington from '79-80.They had a hit single in 1980 called "Who You Looking At?" on RCA Records, which reached number 72 in the UK Singles Chart. Christie Hospital
The Christie Hospital in Manchester, England, is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe. It is managed by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital was established by a committee under the chairmanship of Richard Christie, a lawyer and academic, as the Cancer Pavilion and Home for Incurables. It opened at a site in Lorne Street off Oxford Road in 1892, at a site in Chorlton-upon-Medlock now occupied by Manchester Royal Infirmary. The name of the pavilion was changed by the addition of "Christie" in 1901 after Christie himself had died. In 1929 it had 34 beds and was resorted to by patients from northern England and north Wales; it was then the only provincial hospital solely for cancer treatment. Get It Together (British TV Series)
''Get It Together'' is a British children's television series, produced by Granada Television for the UK ITV network between 6 April 1977 and 22 December 1981. The series followed an almost identical format to the earlier ''Lift Off with Ayshea'', also created by series producer Muriel Young. The series was presented by former 'straight man' to Basil Brush, Roy North, initially with Linda Fletcher and then later with Megg Nicol who had made her debut presenting with David Jensen in Yorkshire TV's Pop Quest. Whereas ''Lift Off'' had been originally designed to showcase viewer's pop music requests by guest artists, ''Get It Together'' relied more on the presenters and resident band and singers. Lift Off With Ayshea
''Lift Off with Ayshea'' is a British TV show, produced by Granada Television for the ITV network, and starring Ayshea Brough, which ran for 122 editions spanning eight series, between November 1969 and December 1974. Preceded by the show ''Discotheque'' which had been hosted by Dianne Greaves, the replacement was originally entitled ''Lift Off'' and was aired in the children's programming schedule, but was seen by many as ITV's junior answer to the BBC's ''Top of the Pops''. Ayshea (formally Ayshea Brough) had appeared on the earlier ''Discotheque'' in March 1969 and was one of the first women of Asian heritage to present a British television series, initially co-hosting the show with Graham Bonney and later singer Wally Whyton. David Jensen
David Allan "Kid" Jensen (born 4 July 1950) is a Canadian-born British radio DJ and television presenter. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Jensen began as a radio DJ on Radio Luxembourg. Jensen was later a broadcaster for the BBC from 1976 to 1984, as a host on BBC Radio 1 and presenter on the TV music programme ''Top of the Pops'' from 1977 to 1984. Peter James Barnard-Powell (born 24 March 1951) is an English former disc jockey, popular on BBC Radio 1 in the late 1970s and 1980s, as well as a television presenter for the BBC music chart programme ''Top of the Pops''. Mike Sweeney (DJ)
Michael Thomas Sweeney (born 15 September 1947 in Salford, Lancashire, England) is a broadcaster and radio DJ. Education and early career Sweeney attended Mount Carmel School in Salford, after which he worked at Associated Electrical Industries in Trafford Park. He was a platelayer at the docks, a labourer, a miner, a van driver, building site labourer and a computer programmer. He performed in a local band, the Salford Jets, as a singer and songwriter in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The band had three top-100 UK hit singles, one of which reached No. 72 in the UK Singles Charts in 1980. Sweeney and his wife have lived in Uppermill since 1997.
