Salen, Mull
Salen ( gd, An t-Sàilean) is a settlement on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. It is on the east coast of the island, on the Sound of Mull, approximately halfway between Craignure and Tobermory. The full name of the settlement is 'Sàilean Dubh Chaluim Chille' (the little black bay of St Columba). In 1991 it had a population of 500. History Until the early 1800s, the site of today's village was no more than an unremarkable junction of tracks. The Laird of Gruline and Ulva, Lachlan Macquarie, decided that there was commercial advantage in establishing a village and harbour on the nearest point on the Sound of Mull to his estates: and so Salen came into being. St Columba visited Salen and preached from a rocky bluff behind the Salen Hotel. Transport The mailboat service from Oban to Mull formerly called at Salen pier en route to Tobermory. From 1964 the new ferries required bigger piers and Craignure was established as the main ferry terminus on the island due to its central location ...

Tuff Darts was an American punk rock band. They were one of the first bands to establish an audience at CBGB. They reached their greatest fame in the mid-late 1970s with such songs as "Slash", "(Your Love Is Like) Nuclear Waste" and their biggest single, "All for the Love of Rock and Roll", which was originally recorded by Ram Jam. The band appeared at popular New York City clubs like Max's Kansas City and CBGB and featured Robert Gordon (vocals), Jeff Salen (guitar), Bobby Butani (guitar), John DeSalvo (bass), and Jim Morrison (drums). Sven Gustaf Salén (7 November 1890 – 29 October 1969) was a Swedish sailor who competed in the 1936 and 1952 Summer Olympics. In 1936, together with his wife Dagmar Salén, he won a bronze medal in the mixed 6 m class as the helmsman of the boat ''May Be''. Sixteen years later he finished fourth as the helmsman of the boat ''May Be VII'' in the same event. Between 1922 and 1962 Salén ran his company Salén Lines. He was first to use an oversized foresail on his 6 meter racing yacht "May-Be" in the 1926 race Coppa del Tirreno in Genoa. This is why this sail is called a genoa. He successfully used it during the Scandinavian Gold Cup’s races of 1927 in Oyster Bay (US). Sven Salén also pioneered the parachute spinnaker. His sailing career was boosted after his team won the 6 m event at the unofficial world championships in 1927. In 1927 he received the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal. Salen Ligand
Salen refers to a tetradentate C2-symmetric ligand synthesized from salicylaldehyde (sal) and ethylenediamine (en). It may also refer to a class of compounds, which are structurally related to the classical salen ligand, primarily bis-Schiff bases. Salen ligands are notable for coordinating a wide range of different metals, which they can often stabilise in various oxidation states. For this reason salen-type compounds are used as metal deactivators. Metal salen complexes also find use as catalysts. Synthesis and properties H2salen may be synthesized by the condensation of ethylenediamine and salicylaldehyde. : Complexes of salen with metal cations may be made without isolating it from the reaction mixture. This is possible because the stability constant for the formation of the metal complexes are very high, due to the chelate effect. :H2L + Mn+ → ML(n−2)+ + 2 H+ where L stands for the ligand. The pyridine adduct of the cobalt(II) complex Co(salen)(py) ( salcomine) ...
