Salempur is a constituency of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly covering the city of Salempur in the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Salempur is one of five assembly constituencies in the Salempur Lok Sabha constituency. Since 2008, this assembly constituency is numbered 341 amongst 403 constituencies. Vijay Laxmi Gautam is an Indian politician and Minister of State in the Government of Uttar Pradesh and a member of 18th Legislative Assembly. He represents the Salempur constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Political career Following the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, he was elected as an MLA from the Salempur Assembly constituency, defeating Manbodh Prasad, the candidate from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), by the margin of 16,608 votes. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is a national level political party in India that was formed to represent Bahujans (literally means "community in majority"), referring to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBC), along with religious minorities. According to Kanshi Ram, when he founded the party in 1984, the Bahujans comprised 85 percent of India's population, but were divided into 6,000 different castes.
