Saleem Iqbal
Saleem Iqbal (1933 – 8 April 1996) was a Pakistani film music composers duo. Early life This was a pair of brothers – the older brother Iqbal Hussain (1931 – 8 April 1996) and the younger brother Saleem Hussain (1933 – 2 April 1996) who composed music in over 30 films in Pakistan. Both brothers were born in the residential neighbourhood of Bhati Gate, Lahore, British India. Career During the decade of the 1940s, both young teenagers then, used to stage the play ''Heer'' based on the epic love story of the 18th century Sufi poet Waris Shah in the narrow streets of the Walled City of Lahore. Amrita Pritam
Amrita Pritam (; 31 August 1919 – 31 October 2005) was an Indian novelist, essayist and poet, who wrote in Punjabi and Hindi. A prominent figure in Punjabi literature, she is the recipient of the 1956 Sahitya Akademi Award. Her body of work comprised over 100 books of poetry, fiction, biographies, essays, a collection of Punjabi folk songs and an autobiography that were all translated into several Indian and foreign languages. Pritam is best remembered for her poignant poem, ''Ajj aakhaan Waris Shah nu'' (Today I invoke Waris Shah – "Ode to Waris Shah"), an elegy to the 18th-century Punjabi poet, an expression of her anguish over massacres during the partition of India. Mushir Kazmi
Mushir Kazmi (1915 – 8 December 1975) was a film songs lyricist and a poet from Pakistan and India. Early life and career Mushir Kazmi was born in Banoor, Punjab, British India in 1915. Breakthrough film song of his career has a fascinating story behind it – ''Chandani Raatein'' of Dopatta (1952 film). He was hired by the film producer Sibtain Fazli to write the film songs. He tried and wrote many songs but they failed to get his approval. Finally he was given one more day to come up with a film song or be fired from his job. Dejected and feeling down, he went to the roof top of a Lahore building in the evening and laid down on a bed to stare at the night sky above him. At that moment, the words of this highly popular film song were born. Mushir Kazmi ended up writing 97 film songs later for more than 50 films during his career. Hazin Qadri
Bashir Ahmad (9 April 1926 – 19 March 1991), known as Hazin Qadri, was a Punjabi film song lyricist and film screenwriter from Pakistan. Early life Qadri was born Bashir Ahmad in a small village 'Raja Tamoli' near Gujranwala, British India on 9 April 1926. He could not complete his education beyond the elementary or primary school due to poverty. As a young man, he was eager to get an opportunity to try his luck in the then newly established Pakistani film industry after 1947. After two years of struggle, he was given a chance to write his first film song by the veteran film producer and director Anwar Kamal Pasha for his upcoming film Do Ansoo (1950). The film turned out to be a 'hit film'. Career Qadri's second film was ''Nath'' (1952) in which he wrote all the film songs, film script, story and dialogue. Ahmad Rahi (12 November 1923 – 2 September 2002) was a Punjabi poet and writer from Pakistan. Early life He was born 12 November 1923 in Amritsar, British India. His real name was Ghulam Ahmad, a name given by his spiritual leader Khorsheed Ahmad. He completed his basic early education from Amritsar, India in 1940. After completing his high school, he got admission in M.A.O. College, Lahore but was expelled due to taking part in political movements. After expulsion, he joined his father in his business of selling embroidered wool shawls in the local market. Amanat Ali Khan
Ustad Amanat Ali Khan ( ur, ; ; 1922 – 18 September 1974) was a Pakistani classical vocalist from the Patiala gharana tradition of music and is widely regarded as one of the finest classical and ''ghazal'' singers of all time. Together with his younger brother, Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan (1935 – 2017), he formed a famed singing duo that garnered widespread popularity across the Indian subcontinent. Saleem Raza (singer)
Noel Dias (4 March 1932 – 25 November 1983), better known as Saleem Raza ( ur, ), was a Pakistani playback singer. He started his singing career from Lahore, Pakistan and quickly gained popularity. Raza was a classically- trained singer and was more famous for singing sad songs. Raza's career suffered due to the rise of singer Ahmed Rushdi in the late 1950s. He left playback singing in 1966 as he lost his popularity with the film composers and moved to Canada where he died in 1983. Career Saleem Raza was born Noel Dias in a Christian family. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, he migrated to Pakistan and settled in Lahore. He first sang for Lahore Radio Station. Raza also made friends with an artist of the time, Mohni Hameed.
