Sal Marchiano
Salvatore Joseph "Sal" Marchiano (born March 3, 1941) is a former American sportscaster who worked in New York radio and television for forty four years. In December 2008 he retired from his position as sports director and anchor for the WPIX Channel 11 News At Ten. A graduate of Fordham University, Marchiano began his sportscasting career in 1964, with the audio operation of United Press International and in local radio, mentored by famed New York sportscaster Marty Glickman. Marchiano later worked at CBS News, WCBS-TV, WNBC-TV, ESPN, ABC Sports, ABC Radio Network, WABC-TV, WNEW-FM radio and the Mutual Radio Network. His TV debut as sports anchor and reporter for Frank Gifford was at WCBS in 1967, working alongside Jim Jensen, Robert Trout and Reed Collins. WPIX (channel 11) is a television station in New York City. Owned by Mission Broadcasting, it is operated under a local marketing agreement (LMA) by Nexstar Media Group, making it a ''de facto'' owned-and-operated station and flagship (broadcasting), flagship of The CW, which Nexstar acquired 75% ownership in October 2022. WNEW-FM (102.7 FM, ''NEW 102.7'') is a hot adult contemporary formatted radio station, licensed to New York, New York and owned by Audacy, Inc. The station's studios are located at the Audacy facility in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Manhattan. Its transmitter is located at the Empire State Building. WNEW-FM is best remembered for one of its previous incarnations, a progressive rock radio format that began in 1967 and lasted into the 1990s. Susan Anne "Sam" Marchiano is an American television sportscaster, documentarian and activist who is adjunct faculty at the NYU Tisch Sports Institute for Sports Management, Media and Business. In addition to teaching Leagues and Governing Organizations and Leadership for Crisis Situations, Marchiano served as research chair for NYU's 2016 Social Responsibility of Sports Conference. Harold Jens Jensen (November 13, 1926 – October 16, 1999), usually known as Jim Jensen, was a longtime American anchor and reporter, most notably at CBS' flagship station, WCBS-TV in New York. Background Jensen, who was of Danish descent, was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Denver. then moved into broadcasting—first at WLIP-AM in Kenosha, then at WMBD-TV in Peoria, Illinois; and WBZ-AM-FM- TV in Boston. Career In November 1963, he was the "pool" reporter in Hyannis Port at the Kennedy compound in the aftermath of John F. Kennedy's assassination. His reporting was noticed by WCBS, who hired him in 1964. He soon became weekend anchorman and backup weekday anchor behind Robert Trout, who was doing double duty at the station and at CBS News.
