Sakoa
Sakoa is a region of southwestern Madagascar characterised by Madagascar spiny thickets, dry spiny forest and known particularly for its coal fields, the highest quality of which is the Sakoa field. There are a number of license holders on the field. The vast majority of licenses of commercial value are held by Madagascar Consolidated Mining, a subsidiary of Red Island Minerals, founded by Sam Malin, which is appraising and developing the resources of the field. Pan African Mining holds a considerable number of licenses on the periphery of the field. Other coal fields adjacent to the Sakoa region include the Ianapera, Imaloto, Sakamena and Vohibory fields. Red Island Minerals
Red Island Minerals Ltd (RIM) is a Perth Western Australia-based coal development company operating in Madagascar. The company is wholly owned by PTT Asia Pacific Mining Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of PTT Public Company Limited, a state-owned Thailand, Thai company. Red Island Minerals was founded by Sam Malin under the name Petrosearch International on 2 March 2005. Its name was changed to Red Island Minerals in 2008. Red Island Minerals develops the Sakoa, Sakoa coal field in southwestern Madagascar. It operates through its wholly owned subsidiary, Madagascar Consolidated Mining SARL, in which the Government of Madagascar, Malagasy government agency OMNIS holds a minority stake. Sakamena
Sakamena is a village near Betroka in the region of Anosy in Madagascar. Sakamena is also the name of a Permian sedimentary geological formation that has yielded many vertebrate fossil, including Triadobatrachus (the first lissamphibian), Claudiosaurus, one of the first aquatic reptiles, and the Coelurosauravus ''Coelurosauravus'' (meaning "hollow lizard grandfather") is a genus of basal diapsid reptiles, known from the Late Permian of Madagascar. Like other members of the family Weigeltisauridae, members of this genus possessed long, rod-like ossifica ..., the first gliding reptile. The Madagascar spiny forests (also known as the Madagascar spiny thickets) is an ecoregion in the southwest of Madagascar. The vegetation type is found on poor substrates with low, erratic winter rainfall. The ecoregion contains an outstanding proportion of endemic plant species and is listed as one of the 200 most important ecological regions in the world; one of the Global 200.
