Saipan International School
Saipan International School (SIS) is an independent, not-for-profit international school located on the island of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. Founded in 1994, SIS has approximately 250 students enrolled in Pre-K through 12th grade, making it one of the larger private schools and the only international school in the Commonwealth. Academics SIS follows an American-based curriculum and culminates with the largest assortment of Advanced Placement exams in the Commonwealth. Additionally, SIS was the first school in Micronesia authorized to offer the AP Capstone Diploma. Many students also qualify for the prestigious distinction of AP International Diploma. National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories, which consists of many chapters in high schools. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. The National Honor Society requires some sort of service to the community, school, or other organizations. The time spent working on these projects contributes towards the monthly service hour requirement. The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The Alpha chapter of NHS was founded at Fifth Avenue High School by Principal Edward S. Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. At a MUN conference, students work as the representative of a country, organization, or person, and must solve a problem with other delegates from around the world. MUN teaches participants skills like research, public speaking, debating, and writing, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership. While Model UN is typically used as an extracurricular activity, some schools also offer it as a class. FIRST Robotics Competition
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build robots capable of competing in that year's game that weigh up to . Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, placing inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams.
