Saint-Valentin, Quebec
Saint-Valentin () is a municipality in southern Quebec, Canada located in the administrative area of the Montérégie. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 470. Named after the Christian hallow Saint Valentine, the community has lately been trying to capitalize on its name as a destination for lovers. A ''Festival de la Saint-Valentin'' is held every February, along with a St. Valentine's Day Mass. The post office frequently receives letters from around the world to postmark. Saint Valentine ( it, San Valentino; la, Valentinus) was a 3rd-century Roman saint, commemorated in Western Christianity on February 14 and in Eastern Orthodoxy on July 6. From the High Middle Ages, his Saints' Day has been associated with a tradition of courtly love. He is also a patron saint of Terni, asthma and beekeepers. Saint Valentine was a clergymaneither a priest or a bishopin the Roman Empire who ministered to persecuted Christians.. He was martyred and his body buried at a Christian cemetery on the Via Flaminia on February 14, which has been observed as the Feast of Saint Valentine (Saint Valentine's Day) since at least the eighth century.
