Saint Jerome Parish Church
St. Jerome Parish Church (also known as Morong Church) is a Roman Catholic church located in Morong, Rizal, Philippines. It was built during the Spanish period in the country, with stones from a hill called Kay Ngaya; lime from the stones of the mountain Kay Maputi; and sand and gravel from Morong River. History The town of Morong traces its origins to the pioneering work of the Franciscans Juan de Plasencia and Diego de Oropesa. Both were responsible for starting most of the lake town mission in 1578. They constructed chapels (visitas) attached to a bigger settlement to allow religious and civil administration. Later, this settlement was converted into Pueblo de Morong and was made the provincial capital of the Franciscan Order at that time. Baras, Tanay, Pililla, Cardona, Binangonan and Teresa were the visitas under Pueblo de Morong. Fr. Morong, Rizal
Morong, officially the Municipality of Morong ( tgl, Bayan ng Morong), is a 2nd class municipality located in the province of Rizal, Philippines. As per the 2020 census, Morong has a population of 71,151 people. The town is also known for promoting education as its priority, with the vision "''Una Ang Edukasyon''" (Education First). During the early-1970s and early-1990s, Morong became a center of education with students from nearby towns of Rizal coming to study in the numerous academic institutions situated in the town. Binangonan
Binangonan, officially the Municipality of Binangonan ( tgl, Bayan ng Binangonan) is a 1st class municipality in the province of Rizal, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 313,631 people. A thriving fish port and fishing industry is found in Binangonan, having a long coast line facing the Laguna de Bay, including the western part of Talim Island. The plant of Rizal Cement and Grandspan are in Binangonan as well. Their main livelihood are fishing and farming. With the continuous expansion of Metro Manila, the municipality is now part of Manila's conurbation which reaches Cardona in its easternmost part. Felix Huerta
Felix Huerta, O.F.M., was a Spanish Franciscan friar, Catholic priest, scholar and missionary to the Philippines during the 19th century, when it was still a colony of Spain. He is best known for authoring a history of local Catholic parishes which is now a critical tool for Philippine historians. He was also the founder of Manila's Monte de Piedad Savings and Mortgage Bank, and was instrumental in the establishment of Manila's first water system. Morong was an administrative division of the Philippines existing as a politico-military district created out of parts of the provinces of Tondo and Laguna on February 23, 1853 by a decree of the ''Superior Gobierno'', composing Morong, Pililla, Tanay, Baras, Binangonan, Jalajala, Angono and Cardona from Laguna; and Antipolo, Boso-Boso, Cainta and Taytay from Tondo. The offices were housed at a building now known as Comandancia. Its first military governor was Francisco Turrentigue. Creation of the District Three years after the issuance of Royal Decree of Spain in 1844, provincial organizations were reclassified into provinces, districts, and politico-military units. Morong River
The Morong River ( tl, Ilog ng Morong), also referred to as the Morong-Teresa River, is a river system in Rizal, Philippines. It is one of 21 major tributaries of Laguna de Bay. It covers 14 barangays and stretches from Antipolo down to Teresa, Rizal, Morong, Rizal and finally to Laguna de Bay. The Morong River sub-basin has a drainage area of . On 1991, a study noted that eutrophication in Laguna de Bay could be attributed to nutrients brought to the lake as a result of the tremendous deterioration of the Morong River and the San Pedro River. In the case of the Morong River, this increase was said to be a result of draining effluents from hog farms.
