Sailaway
"Sailaway" is a song by the American R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire, written by Maurice White, Eddie del Barrio, Philip Bailey and Roxanne Seeman. It was produced by White and recorded during the ''Faces'' sessions in Montserrat at George Martin's Air Studios and in Los Angeles at The Complex/ARC Studios 1980, engineered and mixed by George Massenburg. "Sailaway" was released on a vinyl, 12', radio promo disc with four songs by ARC and Columbia Records. The song was included in Earth, Wind & Fire compilation albums including " The Love Songs", released in 1991 in Europe, UK, Germany and Brazil and "Simply the Best", released May 15, 2000 by Columbia. In June 1999, Philip Bailey featured a jazz version of "Sailaway" under the title "Sail Away" on his ''Dreams'' album. Roxanne Seeman
Roxanne Joy Seeman is an American songwriter and lyricist. She is best known for her songs by Billie Hughes, Philip Bailey, Phil Collins, Earth, Wind & Fire, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, The Sisters of Mercy, The Jacksons, Jacky Cheung, and in film and television. She has two Emmy nominations. Seeman is a writer and producer of the Japan Grand Prix Gold Disk Award for International Single of the Year "Welcome To The Edge" by Billie Hughes. Seeman has written songs for Chinese artists including Jacky Cheung, Yang Kun, Super Vocal, Rainie Yang and productions by Zhang Yadong and Gao Xiaosong. ''Faces'' is the tenth studio album by the American band Earth, Wind & Fire released on October 14, 1980, on ARC/Columbia Records. The album reached number 10 on the ''Billboard'' Top LPs chart, number 2 on the ''Billboard'' Top Soul albums chart and number 10 on the UK Albums Chart. ''Faces'' was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. Overview ''Faces'' was partly recorded in the Caribbean island of Montserrat and produced by EWF leader Maurice White. Artists such as Fred Wesley and Toto's Steve Lukather guested on the album. Eddie Del Barrio
Eduardo Gutiérrez del Barrio, known professionally as Eddie del Barrio, is an Argentinian composer, arranger, songwriter, and pianist. He is a founding member of the jazz fusion band Caldera. He has collaborated with Earth, Wind & Fire, Stan Getz, Herb Alpert, and Dianne Reeves. Early life Eduardo del Barrio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1937. In 1942 his family moved to Mendoza, where his father started a music school. Del Barrio is a classically trained pianist. At seventeen he led a jazz band, playing in clubs. In 1965 he moved to the United States. His brother Jorge del Barrio was classically trained and moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as an arranger. Heads Up International
Heads Up International is a jazz record label that was formed in Cleveland, Ohio. It was bought by the Concord Music Group in 2005. History The label got its name from a jazz group that Dave Love formed while attending North Texas State University. After college, Love became musical director for Donald Byrd. Later, he recorded an album with his band and soprano saxophonist Dave Liebman. While trying to sell the album to record labels, he took a position as National Director of Sales & Marketing for Oxymoron P&D, where executives convinced him to start his own label with his album. Using Oxymoron for distribution, Love began Heads Up International in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. The label's first album was ''The Energy of the Chance'' by Dave Liebman. Louis Satterfield
Louis Edward Satterfield (April 3, 1937 – September 27, 2004) was an American bassist and trombonist. Satterfield was a member of both The Pharaohs and the Phenix Horns. He also collaborated with prominent artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Muddy Waters, Phil Collins, B.B King, The Emotions, Ramsey Lewis, The Whispers and The Gap Band. Biography and career Satterfield was born in Shaw, Mississippi, a city in Bolivar and Sunflower counties, Mississippi, in the Mississippi Delta region, on April 3, 1937.
