Saikat Saha Roy (born 12 December 1991) is an Indian football player who currently plays for I-League 2nd Division club Bhawanipore F.C. Club career East Bengal After spending a season being captain for the East Bengal F.C. youth team in the I-League U19 championships Roy signed professional terms with the club. The 2011–12 season started off well for Roy as he was included in the East Bengal's 2011 Indian Federation Cup squad list. After the Federation Cup Roy made his first start and game for the East Bengal first-team during the 2011 Indian Super Cup against Salgaocar. The match ended with East Bengal winning on penalties 9-8 and Roy scoring the winning penalty. He then played his first professional I-League match on 22 October 2011 against Churchill Brothers S.C. where East Bengal lost 1-0. Bhowanipore (also Bhowanipur; bn, ভবানীপুর) is a neighbourhood of South Kolkata in Kolkata district of West Bengal, India. History In 1717, the East India Company obtained the right to rent from 38 villages surrounding their settlement from the Mughal emperor Farrukhsiyar. Of these, 5 lay across the Hooghly in what is now Howrah district. The remaining 33 villages were on the Calcutta side. The I-League (known as Hero I-League for sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp) is the second-tier men's professional football competition of the Indian football league system. It is currently contested by 12 clubs across the country with the winners getting promotion to play in the premier division, the Indian Super League. The 2012–13 I-League was the sixth season of the I-League, the Indian professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 2007. The season began on 6 October 2012 and finished on 12 May 2013 with Churchill Brothers crowned champions in matchday 25. Dempo S.C., Dempo were the defending champions, having won their third I-League title the 2011–12 I-League, previous season. On 29 December 2012, Mohun Bagan were barred from competing in the I-League for 2 years following a decision taken by the I League core committee. This was because they failed to turn up in the second half of the match against East Bengal F.C., East Bengal because of crowd trouble. The 2011–12 I-League was the fifth season of the I-League. The season began in October 2011 and ended in May 2012. Salgaocar are the defending champions, having won their maiden title in the previous season. The current edition has a total of 14 teams contesting for the honors.
