Sahira Sharif
Sahira Sharif (also spelled Saira Sharif'')'' is an Afghan politician who was elected to represent Khost Province in Afghanistan's Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of its National Legislature, in 2005. A report on Khost prepared at the Navy Postgraduate School stated that she "was possibly associated with Hezb-e Islami". A member of the Pashtun ethnic group, she attended University and may have had a Master's degree. As a member of parliament, she sat on the Education Committee. A former Hezb-e Islami leader, she presented herself in 2005 as an independent candidate, and was believed to support the Hamid Karzai administration. She is described as a women's rights activist. During the 2009 presidential election, she supported Ashraf Ghani. In the 2010 Afghan Parliamentary Elections, she ran in Khost province as an independent. Khost Province
Khost (Pashto/Dari: ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the southeastern part of the country. Khost consists of thirteen districts and the city of Khost serves as the capital of the province. To the east, Khost Province is bordered by North Waziristan and Kurram, which are districts in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Historically, Khost used to be a part of Paktia, and the larger region surrounding Khost is still referred to as Loya Paktia. Throughout history, the province has been the site of numerous rebellions, leading to the local Pashtun populace to consider themselves the “traditional king-makers in Kabul”. Mirman Baheer
Mirman Baheer is a secret literary society of women meeting across Afghanistan. Founded in 2010 by Sahira Sharif, the organization attracted international attention after research conducted by Eliza Griswold was published in 2012. It has continued to meet into 2021, shifting to livestreaming meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic. History Sahira Sharif, an Afghani politician, founded Mirman Baheer in 2010 as a literary society for Afghan women to read their writings and share accounts of their life. 2010 Afghan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Afghanistan on 18 September 2010 to elect members of the House of the People (Wolesi Jirga). The Afghan Independent Election Commission - established in accordance with the article 156 of the Constitution of Afghanistan for the purpose of organizing and supervising all elections in the country - postponed the poll from its original date of 22 May to September 18. The results were delayed on several occasions, but were finalized on October 31. The Taliban issued a direct threat to all those involved in the House of the People elections.
