Saguenay, Quebec
Saguenay ( , , ) is a city in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, Canada, on the Saguenay River, about north of Quebec City by overland route. It is about upriver and northwest of Tadoussac, located at the confluence with the St. Lawrence River. It was formed in 2002 by merging the cities of Chicoutimi and Jonquière and the town of La Baie, Quebec, La Baie. Chicoutimi was founded by French colonists in 1676. The city of Saguenay constitutes a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE); its geographical code is 941. Together with the regional county municipality of Le Fjord-du-Saguenay Regional County Municipality, Le Fjord-du-Saguenay, it forms the Census geographic units of Canada, census division (CD) of Le Saguenay-et-son-Fjord (94). Jonquière (electoral District)
Jonquière is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 to 2004 and again from the 2015 election onward. This riding was created in 1976 from parts of Lapointe and Montmorency ridings. It was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed into Jonquière—Alma and Chicoutimi—Le Fjord ridings. It was re-created during the 2012 electoral redistribution from parts of Jonquière—Alma, Chicoutimi—Le Fjord and Roberval—Lac-Saint-Jean. Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, Quebec
Sainte-Rose-du-Nord is a village on the north shore of the Saguenay River in Quebec, Canada. The site was known, from 1801 to 1933, as La Descente-des-Femmes. Amerindian women awaited the return of the men from fishing, and would meet them by descending from the heights to the shore. The patron saint of the parish, Rose of Lima, chosen for reasons unknown, was the first saint canonised in the New World. The specifier -du-Nord was added in 1933, when the post office was established. Residents are known as Roserains. The parish was first established in 1838. The economy is based primarily on tourism. The village is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Quebec. There has been some agriculture and logging. Formerly, wood was floated from the warf to paper mills. Larouche is a municipality (Quebec), municipality in Quebec, Canada, part of Le Fjord-du-Saguenay Regional County Municipality. It is located within the city of Saguenay and consists of most of the borough of Jonquière.
