Sage Weil
Sage Weil (born March 17, 1978) is the founder and chief architect of Ceph, a distributed storage platform. He also was the creator of WebRing, a co-founder of Los Angeles-based hosting company DreamHost, and the founder and CTO of Inktank. Weil now works for Red Hat as the chief architect of the Ceph project. Weil earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Harvey Mudd College in 2000 and completed his PhD in 2007 at the University of California, Santa Cruz working with Prof. Scott Brandt on consistency protocols, data distribution (CRUSH), and the metadata manager in the Ceph distributed file system. In 2014, he won an O'Reilly Open Source Award. WebRing In May 1994, Weil developed a script based on work by Denis Howe and Giraldo Hierro that became the technology behind WebRing. Ceph (Storage)
Ceph (pronounced ) is an open-source software-defined storage platform that implements object storage on a single distributed computer cluster and provides 3-in-1 interfaces for object-, block- and file-level storage. Ceph aims primarily for completely distributed operation without a single point of failure, scalability to the exabyte level, and to be freely available. Since version 12, Ceph does not rely on other filesystems and can directly manage HDDs and SSDs with its own storage backend BlueStore and can completely self reliantly expose a POSIX filesystem. Ceph replicates data and makes it fault-tolerant, using commodity hardware and Ethernet IP and requiring no specific hardware support. The Ceph’s system offers disaster recovery and data redundancy through techniques such as replication, erasure coding, snapshots and storage cloning. Denis Howe (editor)
Denis Cecil Howe (14 September 1928 – 7 June 2020) was an English footballer who made 223 appearances in the Football League for Darlington, Southend United and Aldershot in the 1950s. A full back or centre half, he also played in the Southern League for Bedford Town. Life and career Howe was born in September 1928 in West Ham, now part of London. He began his football career with West Ham United, but never played first-team football for the club, and moved on to Darlington in 1951. After three years and 89 appearances in the Third Division North, he spent four seasons in the Southern Section with Southend United, for whom he played 108 senior matches (101 in league competition). Mark Shuttleworth
Mark Richard Shuttleworth (born 18 September 1973) is a South African and British entrepreneur who is the founder and CEO of Canonical, the company behind the development of the Linux-based Ubuntu operating system. In 2002, Shuttleworth became the first South African to travel to space as a space tourist, and the first African from an independent country to travel to space. He lives on the Isle of Man and holds dual citizenship from South Africa and the United Kingdom. According to the ''Sunday Times Rich List'' in 2020, Shuttleworth is worth an estimated £500 million.
