Place Seffarine (Seffarine Square; also spelled Saffarin) is a small square in the medina (old city) of Fes, Morocco. It is located on the south side of the Qarawiyyin Mosque, close to the Bou Khrareb River which runs through the heart of the medina. The square dates back to the Middle Ages but has also undergone renovations in modern times. It is adjoined by the Qarawiyyin's library to the northwest, by the Saffarin Madrasa to the east, and by the Saffarin Hammam ( bathhouse) to the southwest. Zerhoun ( ar, جبل زرهون also spelled Zarhun or Zarhon) is a mountain in Morocco, north of Meknes. On the hill is the Moulay Idris Zerhoun town, named after Moulay Idris I, the founder of the Idrisid dynasty who was buried there in 791 AD. Geography Near the Zerhoun range are the ruins of Volubilis, once the Roman provincial capital, and the first home of Idris I. It was settled by Phoenicians or Carthaginians prior to the conclusion of the Punic Wars, when it was annexed by Rome. Mesbahiyya Madrasa ( ar, المدرسة المصباحية) is a madrasa in Fes el Bali, the old medina quarter in the city of Fez, Morocco. The madrasa was completed in 1346, during the Marinid period, under the patronage of the Marinid sultan Abu al-Hasan who was a prolific constructor of madrasas in the city.
