Sacrifice (Gary Numan Album)
''Sacrifice'' is the twelfth solo studio album by English musician Gary Numan, released in October 1994 by Numa Records. Its release is often cited as marking the start of a critical and artistic rejuvenation for Numan. The album was released in the US in 1997 with a different title, ''Dawn'', based on the comic book character Dawn. It also carried cover art by Joseph Michael Linsner. A number of tracks displayed an antipathy towards religion, a stance that had been noted in isolated songs from early in Numan's career but which became more pronounced on this album and its successors, '' Exile'' (1997) and ''Pure'' (2000). While Exile was a fictional story, Numan later stated that "Sacrifice looks at my actual beliefs." An "extended" version of ''Sacrifice'', approximately twice as long as the original, was released in 1995. Gary Numan
Gary Anthony James Webb (born 8 March 1958), known professionally as Gary Numan, is an English musician. He entered the music industry as frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. After releasing two albums with the band, he released his debut solo album '' The Pleasure Principle'' in 1979, topping the UK Albums Chart. While his commercial popularity peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits including "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and "Cars" (both of which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart), Numan maintains a cult following. He has sold over 10 million records. Numan faced intense hostility from critics and fellow musicians in his early career, but has since come to be regarded as a pioneer of electronic music. Marilyn Manson (band)
Marilyn Manson is an American Rock music, rock band formed by namesake lead singer Marilyn Manson and guitarist Daisy Berkowitz in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1989. Originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids, they gained a local cult following in South Florida in the early 1990s with their theatrical live performances. In 1993, they were the first act signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records label. Teresa Jane Davis (born 8 January 1968), also known by her stage name TJ Davis, is an English singer, songwriter and record producer. She started as a backing vocalist for Gary Numan, D:Ream and Blur, and quickly developed a career of her own. She is known among video game music aficionados for working with award-winning composer Richard Jacques on the soundtracks of ''Sonic R'' and ''Metropolis Street Racer''. She was a member of ABBA tribute band Björn Again, performing as 'Frida Longstockin' from 1997 to 2004. Kipper (musician)
Kipper (born Mark Eldridge) is a British Grammy Award-winning guitarist, keyboardist and record producer, known mostly from his collaborations with Gary Numan and Sting. Kipper had his own band, One Nation. After releasing two albums with One Nation he joined the Gary Numan band playing guitar. After realizing his own music was going in a similar direction as Kipper's previous work, Numan asked him to co-produce his 1992 LP ''Machine and Soul''. The album was a mix of funk, rock and dance pop featuring guitar playing from Kipper. Kipper also contributed to Numan's 1994 album ''Sacrifice'' although to a much lesser extent. Years later, Kipper helped produce and played keyboards on two of Sting's studio albums '' Brand New Day'' and ''Sacred Love''.
