Sacred Heart Cathedral, Moundou
The Sacred Heart Cathedral (french: Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur de Moundou) It is a religious building of the Catholic Church that serves as the seat of the diocese of Moundou in Chad. It is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the 1950s, his vicar was Bishop Samuel Gaumain. In 1993, its facilities suffered by sectarian unrest. On March 18, 1998, some soldiers entered it during the Mass and brutally detained the priest and the faithful. The construction of the new Cathedral of Moundou were launched in late 1999, in the district of Dombao. Its facilities are home to some Missionaries. Sacred Heart Cathedral is the former cathedral church for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dodge City located in Dodge City, Kansas, United States. The church building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History Early Masses in Dodge City were celebrated in the Union Church, which had been established by local businessmen and was used by various Christian denominations. Priests who celebrated mass there included the Rev. Felix Schwenberg and the Rev. Ferdinand Wolf. The first Sacred Heart Church was a frame Gothic Revival structure completed in 1882. The Rev. John Handly was given the responsibility by Bishop John Hennessy of Wichita to build a new church that could someday be used as a cathedral for a new diocese. The Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart is a cathedral church located in San Angelo, Texas, United States. It is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of San Angelo. Sacred Heart Parish was founded in 1884, and it was named a cathedral in 1961. The present church was built in the Modern architectural style. History Catholic priests had visited the area that is now San Angelo as early as the 17th century. Catholicism did not organize here until after Fort Concho was established in 1867. The Rev. Mathurin J. Pairier started visiting the area in 1874. He served the religious needs of Catholics at Fort Concho, Ben Ficklin, and Santa Angela. Bart J. Together with the venerable St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica in Galveston, Sacred Heart serves more than 1.2 million Roman Catholics in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Establishment as a Co-Cathedral In 1847, Pope Pius IX established the Diocese of Galveston for the 20,000 Catholics who lived in the new state of Texas. Sacred Heart Cathedral is a former cathedral church located in Amarillo, Texas, United States. It was the seat of the Diocese of Amarillo from 1927 to 1975. History Sacred Heart Parish The Rev. David H. Dunn, pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Clarendon, had the first Sacred Heart Church built in 1903. The first $400 for the fund drive came out of his own funds. Ground was broken on March 17, 1903 and the first Mass was held on August 2 of the same year. The church was dedicated on October 18. As Amarillo grew it became obvious that Sacred Heart was in need of a new church. In 1909 property was purchased at the corner of Ninth and Taylor Streets for $5,000. The new church was built for $18,000 seven years later. The red brick building with white trim was built in the Romanesque Revival style. The Sacred Heart Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in Rochester, New York, United States. The recently renovated cathedral is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Rochester and seat of the diocesan bishop, as well as home to a parish community. The parish is currently known as the Cathedral Community at The Sacred Heart Cathedral. History In 1823, St. Patrick's was the first Catholic parish established in Rochester. Its third church building was under construction when the Diocese of Rochester was founded in 1868, and it became the diocesan cathedral. The Eastman Kodak Company built their headquarters adjacent to the cathedral property in 1914. Over the intervening years, the company expanded its footprint in the area and other parishes were established in the city. Sacred Heart Cathedral is a cathedral church located at 415 East Green Avenue in Gallup, New Mexico, United States. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gallup. History The first Sacred Heart church was built by Father George Julliard in 1899. Part of the building collapsed in 1916 and a new structure on Hill Street between 4th and 5th Streets replaced it the following year. When the Diocese of Gallup was established in 1939, Sacred Heart Church became its cathedral. The present cathedral dates from 1955 and replaced the 1917 sanctuary at a cost of $500,000. The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the fifth-largest cathedral in North America, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. It is located at 89 Ridge Street in the Lower Broadway neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey. Construction began in 1899 and was finished in 1954. The original design called for an English-Irish Gothic Revival church, but plans were later modified in favor of a French Gothic Revival style.
