Sacred Heart-Griffin High School
Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, often abbreviated SHG, is a Catholic high school located in Springfield, Illinois, United States. It is the city's largest private school and is located in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. The school opened in the fall of 1988 after Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school merged with Griffin High School, an all-boys Catholic high school located across the street. Even prior to the merger, certain classes at both schools were taught on a co-educational basis. The part of campus which formerly housed Griffin High School is now known as the West Campus. The part of campus which was home to Sacred Heart Academy is known as the East Campus. Both facilities are used by SHG, with most of the school's athletic facilities being located on the West Campus and the majority of the academic facilities being located on the East Campus. Stephen Glosecki
Stephen O. Glosecki (1950 – 4 April 2007) was a scholar of Old English language and literature. Glosecki was raised in Springfield, Illinois, and educated at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Beloit College, and his Master's and Ph.D. degrees from University of California, Davis. A professor of Old English at University of Alabama at Birmingham, he was the author of books and articles on Old English literature, particularly on shamanism and folklore, and was notable for his contributions to the anthropological study of early Germanic literature. He died of cancer in 2007, aged 55. Karen Hasara is a Republican member of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees and a past member of the Illinois General Assembly (1986-1995) as well as the Mayor of Springfield, Illinois for two terms from 1995-2003. Jeffrey Joseph Fassero (born January 5, 1963) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. Professional career Montreal Expos Fassero was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 22nd round of the amateur draft, but he bounced around in the minors for several years until he joined the Montreal Expos in .
