Sacramento Southern Railroad
The Sacramento Southern Railroad is a heritage railroad owned by the California State Railroad Museum which operates excursion trains on it. The railroad extends from the museum property located in Old Sacramento south along the east bank of the Sacramento River levee. The original Sacramento Southern Railroad ran south to Walnut Grove, California via Freeport and was a non-operating subsidiary of the Southern Pacific Company incorporated in 1903. The line was constructed between 1906–1912, and the first train began operating over the line in 1909. It was merged in 1912 with the Central Pacific Railroad upon completion of the line to Walnut Grove. The line was extended to Isleton by 1929. In 1931, a extension of the branch reached the Mokelumne River. The railroad later became a part of the SP system who filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission to abandon the line, and did so on October 10, 1978. California State Railroad Museum
The California State Railroad Museum is a museum in the state park system of California, United States, interpreting the role of the "iron horse" in connecting California to the rest of the nation. It is located in Old Sacramento State Historic Park at 111 I Street, Sacramento. The museum features 21 restored locomotives and railroad cars, some dating back to 1862. The "Sierra Scene" shows a large scale mockup of a construction scene high in the Sierra Nevada representing Donner Pass circa 1867, featuring the locomotive ''Gov. Stanford''. Other exhibits show how the influence of railroads changed American society, influencing travel, commerce and daily life, as well as the lives of railroaders and the diversity of people who work on railroads. Isleton, California
Isleton is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 804 at the 2010 census, down from 828 at the 2000 census. It is located on Andrus Island amid the slough wetlands of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, on the eastern edge of the Rio Vista Gas Field. The city has many preserved 19th-century era storefronts along its main street, some of which show distinct Chinese influences. Isleton is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade– Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sacramento RiverTrain
The Sacramento River Fox Train, formerly the Yolo Shortline Railroad Company, is a common carrier railroad company that runs special excursions within West Sacramento, California. They run libation excursions, family-friendly holiday excursions, and also operate the Sacramento Railbikes. Their most popular excursions are the Beer Train, Old Vine Express wine tasting train, and the Magical Christmas Train. The River Fox Train is owned by Sierra Railroad and operates under the Sierra Northern Railway now. It has one section of track that is long. The route was originally a branch line of the Sacramento Northern Railroad, a Western Pacific Railroad subsidiary. Interstate Commerce Commission
The Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) was a regulatory agency in the United States created by the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887. The agency's original purpose was to regulate railroads (and later trucking) to ensure fair rates, to eliminate rate discrimination, and to regulate other aspects of common carriers, including interstate bus lines and telephone companies. Congress expanded ICC authority to regulate other modes of commerce beginning in 1906. Throughout the 20th century, several of ICC's authorities were transferred to other federal agencies. The ICC was abolished in 1995, and its remaining functions were transferred to the Surface Transportation Board. The Mokelumne River ( or ; ''Mokelumne'', Miwok for "People of the Fish Net") is a -long river in northern California in the United States.
