Route 106 is a highway in New Brunswick, Canada; running from an intersection with Route 1 and western intersection in Route 905 in Petitcodiac to the intersection of Trans-Canada Highway (Route 2) and the southern terminus of Route 940 at Sackville; a distance of 91.8 kilometres. From Petitcodiac, Route 106 is known as the "Old Post road" and crosses the river to the passing the eastern terminus of Route 885 to the north bank of the Petitcodiac River. From here, the route turns north east, traveling through Petitcodiac East, crossing Route 1 at exit 239 in River Glade and continuing to Salisbury where it briefly merges with Route 112. The route passes through Boundary Creek then Allison where it is known as "Salisbury Rd" and enters the neighbourhood of Lakeview in Moncton. Sackville is a town in southeastern New Brunswick, Canada. It is home to Mount Allison University, a primarily undergraduate liberal arts university. Historically based on agriculture, shipbuilding, and manufacturing, the economy is now driven by the university and tourism. Initially part of the French colony of Acadia, the settlement became part of the British colony of Nova Scotia in 1755 following the Expulsion of the Acadians. Dorchester, New Brunswick
Dorchester is a formerly incorporated village and the shire town of Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada. It is named for Guy Carleton, 1st Baron Dorchester, an 18th-century Governor-General of the old Province of Quebec. It is located on the eastern side of the mouth of the lush Memramcook River valley near the river's discharge point into Shepody Bay. Dorchester is an English-speaking community but it is adjacent to French-speaking Acadian areas farther up the Memramcook River valley. On 1 January 2023, Dorchester merged with the town of Sackville and parts of three local service districts to form the new town of Tantramar. Port Elgin is a Canadian village in Westmorland County, New Brunswick. It is located near the Nova Scotia border at the mouth of the Gaspereaux River where it empties into the Northumberland Strait's Baie Verte. History The village was founded by Acadians in 1690, but abandoned after the Expulsion of the Acadians in 1755. The earthworks of Fort Gaspareaux, a French military fortification from the Seven Years' War are located at the mouth of the river immediately east of the village. Following the Seven Years' War and the American Revolutionary War, British Loyalists resettled in the area which was named Gaspareaux Town.
