Sabunçu, Baku
Sabunchu () is a settlement and municipality in the Sabunchu Rayon of the capital city of Baku, Azerbaijan. It has a population of 33,400. History Until the beginning of the 20th century, the Sabunçu region was producing 35 percent of Baku's oil. It was also the place where the first, Baku-Sabunchu electrified railway system in USSR, built by Chingiz Ildyrym in 1924 was established. Geography The town, seat of Sabunchu Rayon, is located in the north-eastern suburb of the city of Baku and is part of its metropolitan area, situated 12 km from Baku International Airport "Heydar Aliyev". Nikolai Baibakov
Nikolai Konstantinovich Baibakov (; 6 March 1911 – 31 March 2008) was a Soviet statesman and economist who served as Minister of Oil Industry from 1944–1946 and 1948–1955, and Chairman of the State Planning Committee from 1955–1957 and 1965–1985. He was awarded a Hero of Socialist Labour in 1981. Biography Born in Sabunchu, near Baku, Russian Empire, Baibakov finished secondary school in 1928 and entered the Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute, from which he graduated in 1931 as a mining engineer, and worked for the oil industry in Azerbaijan. In 1935, he was drafted into the armed forces, in the Far East. After completing his military service, in January 1937, he returned to Azerbaijan and received rapid promotion during the Great Purge. After a few months, he was appointed chief of the oilfield production department in Azerbaijan, then in January 1938, was transferred to Kuibyshev (Samara) as head of the association for oil production in east Russia. Ashurbeyov
The Ashurbeyovs () or Ashurbeylis () are an Azerbaijani noble family, with an extensive history and bloodline. History The Ashurbeyov family originated from Ashur khan Afsharid dynasty, Afshar. Ashur khan was Nader Shah, Nadir shah's relative, and due to this, he became governor of Tabriz, then vicar of Iranian Azerbaijan during the reign of Nadir shah. In 1743, he participated in suppression of Sam Mirza's rebellion, who posed himself as the descendant of the Safavid dynasty, Safavids. Nadir shah presented lands in Absheron peninsula, including Sabunçu, Baku, Sabunchu, Keşlə, Keshly and Zabrat to Ashur khan according to these merits.
