Sabina Wolanski
Sabina Wolanski, married Sabina van der Linden-Wolanski (8 June 1927 – 23 June 2011) was a Holocaust survivor and author. Her book ''Destined to Live: One Woman's War, Life, Loves Remembered'' is a memoir of her account of her experience of the Holocaust. Biography Wolanski, born in Borysław, Poland (today Ukraine), was 12 years old when her home town in Poland was invaded by the Nazis. In her diary she recorded what happened, including the humiliations and terrors, the murder of her family and her survival. In Borysław, she met the industrialist Berthold Beitz, who had helped shelter Jews in Poland. Leaving Europe after the war, Wolanski began a new life in Australia. In 1967, she gave evidence in a trial of Friedrich Hildebrand, the man who had killed her father and brother in Bremen. Holocaust
The Holocaust, also known as the Shoah, was the genocide of European Jews during World War II. Between 1941 and 1945, Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered some six million Jews across German-occupied Europe; around two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population. The murders were carried out in pogroms and mass shootings; by a policy of extermination through labor in concentration camps; and in gas chambers and gas vans in German extermination camps, chiefly Auschwitz-Birkenau, Bełżec, Chełmno, Majdanek, Sobibór, and Treblinka in occupied Poland. Holocaust survivors are people who survived the Holocaust, defined as the persecution and attempted annihilation of the Jews by Nazi Germany and Axis powers, its allies before and during World War II in Europe and North Africa. There is no universally accepted definition of the term, and it has been applied variously to Jews who survived the war in German-occupied Europe or other Axis territories, as well as to those who fled to Allies (World War II), Allied and Neutral powers during World War II, neutral countries before or during the war. Boryslav ( uk, Борислав; pl, Borysław) is a city located on the Tysmenytsia (river), Tysmenytsia (a tributary of the Dniester), in Drohobych Raion, Lviv Oblast (Oblast, region) of western Ukraine.
