Sabina (region)
Sabina (Latin: ''Sabinum''), also called the Sabine Hills, is a region in central Italy. It is named after Sabina, the territory of the ancient Sabines, which was once bordered by Latium to the south, Picenum to the east, ancient Umbria to the north and Etruria to the west. It was separated from Umbria by the River Nar, today's Nera, and from Etruria by the River Tiber. Today, Sabina is mainly northeast of Rome in the regions Lazio, Umbria and Abruzzo. Sabina Aufenwerth or Auffenwerth (1706-1782), was a German painter. She was one of the first named women in Europe working alongside male counterpart within ceramic design and decoration. However, before the 19th century, many women were under-acknowledged for their contribution to pottery and therefore a lot of her work is unknown. Biography Sabina Aufenwerth was the daughter of a goldsmith named Johann Aufenwerth (1659-1728) in Augsburg. She worked alongside her sister Anna Elisabeth Wald in Augsburg in her father's business, where they gained skills working with metals such as gold and silver. Sabina Mary Higgins (née Coyne; born 1941 or 1942) is an Irish actress, political activist and the wife of the current president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. Early life Sabina Coyne grew up on a small farm in Cloonrane, Milltown near the Galway-Mayo border. She attended national school in Ballindine, County Mayo. Sabina-Francesca Foişor (born August 30, 1989) is a Romanian American chess player holding the title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM). She competed in the Women's World Chess Championship in 2008 and 2017. Foisor won the US women's championship in 2017. Chess career Foisor won four medals at the European Youth Chess Championships in various age categories: one gold (girls U8 in 1996), one silver (girls U16 in 2004) and two bronze (girls U14 in 2003 and girls U18 in 2007). Ursula Eriksson and Sabina Eriksson (born 3 November 1967) are Swedish twin sisters who came to national attention in the United Kingdom in May 2008. The twins had been in Ireland before travelling to the UK and boarding a bus for London in Liverpool. Their odd behaviour after exiting the bus at a service station on the M6 motorway caused the driver not to allow them back on board. The two were later seen on the central reservation of the M6 motorway. When Highways England traffic officers arrived to assist the women, they ran across the busy motorway, as captured by a small television crew.
