SZD-24 Foka
The SZD-24 Foka (Seal) (''Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny'' - Glider Experimental Works) was a single-seat high-performance aerobatic glider designed and built in Poland in 1960. Development The SZD-24 Foka was designed for competition flying in the 'Standard' class as well as aerobatic flying. The design originated from a design competition within SZD which was won by the ”Delfin”, to become the SZD-24 Foka in production. The first flight, by SP-2069, took place in May 1960 at Bielsko but results were not good with poorly performing airbrakes which were unable to limit the airspeed below VNE (Velocity Never Exceed). This posed a problem as OSTIV (''Organisation Scientifique et Technique Internationale du Vol à Voile'' – International Scientific and technical organisation for gliding) rules for the Standard class in gliding competitions stipulate that speed limiting devices must limit maximum speed to VNE or below. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is a Wikimedia movement affinity group for contributors with shared goals. Adela Dankowska
Adela Stanisława Dankowska (born 5 January 1935 in Sobienie-Jeziory) is a retired Polish aviator and politician. She was a glider pilot and the coach of the Polish national gliding team, and also served as a member of Parliament. Biography Dankowska was born in Sobienie-Jeziory in Lublin Voivodeship, Poland. She studied biology at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, graduating in 1959, and learnt to fly at the Aero Club of Warsaw. She held 12 world records during her flying career, and 43 Polish records, including the world record for distance travelled in a straight line, in 1977 (837 km) and the women's world record for height gain, in 1967 (8,430 m). She also held the record for the longest glider flight in Poland, reaching a distance of 837 km in 1974. From 1989 to 1991 Dankowska served as a member of the Parliament of Poland. Pelagia Teresa Majewska (26 April 1933 - 12 July 1988) was a Polish aeroplane and glider pilot-instructor, who won many national and world glider records. She was also a social activist. Early life and education Pelagia Teresa Pietrzak was born on 26 April 1933 in Rowne (now Rivne, Rivne) in Volhynia to Stanisława (d. 1985) and Jan Pietrzak (d. 1942 in Mauthausen concentration camp). After the World War II, Second World War, the surviving family settled in Lublin following the incorporation of Volhynia into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. NACA Airfoil
The NACA airfoils are airfoil shapes for aircraft wings developed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The shape of the NACA airfoils is described using a series of digits following the word "NACA". The parameters in the numerical code can be entered into equations to precisely generate the cross-section of the airfoil and calculate its properties. Origins NACA initially developed the numbered airfoil system which was further refined by the United States Air Force at Langley Research Center.
