SV Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe
SV Berliner VB 49 is a sports club from the city of Berlin, Germany, that is best known for its handball department. The club also fields an association football club. History The club was formed following World War II in June 1949 in the Soviet-occupied eastern half of the country. The rise of Cold War tensions and the establishment of East Germany was quickly followed by the formation of separate sporting competitions including the Deutscher Fußball-Verband der DDR (en: East German Football Association). The club originally played as BSG der BVG Berlin and was created as the sports club of the Berliner Verkehrs Aktiengesellschaft (BVG, en: Berlin Transport Corporation) which managed the city's public transportation services. The FDGB-Pokal (Freier Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund Pokal or Free German Trade Union Federation Cup) was an elimination football tournament held annually in East Germany. It was the second most important national title in East German football after the DDR-Oberliga championship. The founder of the competition was East Germany's major trade union. VfB Einheit zu Pankow is a German association football club from the Pankow locality of Berlin. History Founded in 1893 as VfB Pankow, the club's initial interests were in cricket and tennis. Within a few years English expatriates introduced football, which soon displaced cricket. The club grew quickly and came to include departments for gymnastics, fencing, and cycling.
