''Stips'' is a 1951 West German romantic comedy film directed by Carl Froelich and starring Gustav Fröhlich, Heli Finkenzeller and Eva Ingeborg Scholz.Bock & Bergfelder p. 139 It was shot at the Tempelhof Studios in West Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Hans Luigi. Synopsis Doctor Dirkhoff, nicknamed Stips, was a popular but unconventional art teacher at a local school. Many of the girls in his classes had romantic crushes on him. WHen he returns to the town nearly a decade, now a widower, most of his former students are now happily married but his return reawakens their old desire for him. Carl Froelich
Carl August Hugo Froelich (5 September 1875 – 12 February 1953) was a German film pioneer and film director. He was born and died in Berlin. Biography Apparatus builder and cameraman From 1903 Froelich was a colleague of Oskar Messter, one of the advance guard of German cinema, for whom initially he worked on the construction of cinematographic equipment. As cameraman for Messter's weekly newsreels he filmed among many other things the aftermath of a train accident on the Berlin elevated railway on 28 September 1908, one of the worst transport disasters of the time. Film director and producer Between 1912 and 1951 he made 77 films. In 1913 Froelich made his directorial debut with ''Richard Wagner (film), Richard Wagner''. Gustav Fröhlich
Gustav Fröhlich (21 March 1902 – 22 December 1987) was a German actor and film director. He landed secondary roles in a number of films and plays before landing his breakthrough role of Freder Fredersen in Fritz Lang's 1927 film ''Metropolis''. He remained a popular film star in Germany until the 1950s. Biography Early life and Weimar Republic Gustav Fröhlich was born an illegitimate child in Hanover and was raised by foster parents. Before becoming an actor, he worked for a short time as an editor of a provincial newspaper and as the author of popular novels. During World War I, he also volunteered for duty in occupied Brussels as a press supervisor. Gustav Fröhlich began his stage career in the early 1920s at minor theatres in Germany. Eva Irene Probst (21 April 1930 – 19 November 2018) was a German actress. Biography Born in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Probst was married to Austrian actor Gerhard Riedmann from 1954-60. In the 1950s, she starred in romantic comedy films and ''Heimatfilme''. From its inception in 1992 until the following year, she played Jessica Naumann in the German soap opera, ''Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten''. Eva Ingeborg Scholz (16 February 1928 – 21 March 2022) was a German film and television actress. Biography Eva Ingeborg Scholz made her debut in the title role of the 1948 film ''1-2-3 Corona'' and appeared regularly in films over the following decade, including a performance as a young lodger in Peter Lorre's only directorial effort ''The Lost One'' (1951) and a supporting role in ''The Devil's General'' (1955) with Curd Jürgens. Herbert Windt
Herbert Windt (15 September 1894, Senftenberg, Brandenburg – 2 November 1965, Deisenhofen, now a part of Oberhaching, Bavaria) was a German composer who became one of the most significant film score composers of the Third Reich. He was best known for his collaborations with the director Leni Riefenstahl on films ''Triumph of the Will'' and ''Olympia''. Biography Windt studied at the Sternsches Konservatorium in Berlin but left to enlist in the army at the start of World War I. Severely wounded, he spent two years in hospital, during which he began composing chamber music. In 1920 Windt received a grant to study with the renowned Franz Schreker in the composer's master class at the Berlin Academy of Music. Windt joined the NSDAP in 1931. Otto Gebühr (29 May 1877 – 13 March 1954) was a German theatre and film actor, who appeared in 102 films released between 1917 and 1954. He is noted for his performance as the Prussian king Frederick the Great in numerous films. Early life Born in Kettwig (today part of Essen) in the Rhine Province, the son of a merchant, Gebühr attended the '' gymnasium'' secondary school in Cologne and completed a commercial training.
